Lafayette No. 1
Ms. Margaret: "Always fighting. Lizzie, grab that flour will ya...be careful! If they don't watch it, someone's gonna take notice." Lizzie: "Oh, they have."
Anna: "What do you mean?"
Ms. Margaret: "I don't think it's safe. They are dirty. Who knows what diseases they carry?"
Anna: "Who else is she gonna play with? Where's the yeast? I haven't made things easy for her."
Echos: "Jack, Jack, Jack..." Lizzie: "Yellow Jack?"
Anna: "Yes Lizzie. He's coming for you too."
Lizzie: "Did he love you?"
Anna: "Yes. He wrote me poetry...He did love me. But he loved himself more."
Ms. Margaret: "Stop beating yourself up. You make an honest living. No shame in that. Hand me that bowl. Another crack. She's gotta be careful."
Anna: "You're all those kids have...(drops loaves) oops!"
Moab: "HEY LIZZIEEEE!!!"
Anna: "(Sigh) I've got to get to the shop before Ms. Margaret busts her bloomers. You'd better be there shortly. Here...Now skedaddle! Stay out of trouble..."
Lizzie: "Did you love him?"
Anna: "(Sigh) Yes. Yes, I loved him very much."
Lizzie: "And me?"
Anna: "And you. I la-la-love you."
Lizzie: "I'm awake. I'm awake."
Anna: "Another one. I'm worried about you."
Lizzie: "Ma..."
Anna: "Be the light, my sweet girl."
pg. 31 Harris: "You are not alone. Moab...brother...Fight for us. Be our voice."
Anna: "Be the light, sweet girl."
Lizzie: "Me? You! You won't tell me anything about him...except that I have his eyes."
Anna: "C'mere. He was a merchant. I told you that. He wanted to be a businessman. I told you that too. (sigh) Lizzie...there's nothing new to tell you. Sit still. I've told you the story a hundred times."
Ms. Margaret: "That girl. She's got you heart...but..."
Anna: "Don't say it. She's nothing like him. My girl. She's gonna..." *dies*
Echos: "Lizzie, oh Lizzie" Lizzie: "Ma?"
Anna: "Elizabeth..."
Lizzie: "I don't want to talk about it."
Anna: "Elizabeth..."
Lizzie: "You forgot about me!"
Anna: "Elizabeth? Lizzie! It's alright...shhh...it's alright."
Ms. Margaret: "Are you okay? You don't look..." Lizzie: "Hey Ma! Ms. M! Dunno what you put in the sack yesterday but they ate it up! Geo and Find fought for the last scrap!"
Anna: "Good!"
Lizzie: "That's not what I meant."
Anna: "Ha. I don't want you to end up like me either. Be better."
Lizzie: "I la-la-love you too."
Anna: "He's coming. Make them hear your voice!!!"
Lizzie: "But it was just going to be thrown away-"
Anna: "Hey sassypants, I'm not scolding you! I'm just trying to tell you I'm PROUD of you. Those kids..."
Echos: "Elizabeth, Elizabeth..." Lizzie: "No! You left me!"
Anna: "I didn't leave, honey, he took me."
Echos: "Voice...your voice...voice." Lizzie: "My voice?"
Anna: "I la-la-love you."
Lizzie: "I la-la love you too."
Anna: "I'm pretty lucky too."
Lizzie: "Who?"
Anna: "Jack."
Lizzie: (Line about fever, look scared) Ms. Margaret: "Ouch! Beaucoup dollars and no heart. Lizzie: "Here. What's that mean, Ms. M.?" Ms. Margaret: "They have more money than they know what to do with. (wheeze) Sit down, Anna. Lizzie, give this to your mother." Lizzie: "You sick?"
Anna: "Just tired, love. Put these aside for them."
Ms. Margaret: (long line) "...And you might as well take some fresh stuff to your friends today." Lizzie: "Thank ya Bread Lady..." Ms. Margaret: "Hey...no. Scat." Lizzie: "La-la-love you!"
Anna: "La-la-love you too."
Scene 6 Ending: Hannah: "I don't want your pity. Go." Lizzie: "I'm sorry." Hanna: "Go."
Anna: "Lizzie, Lizzie?"
Lizzie: "But you...you and Ms. Margaret. You give bread to all those kids that have nobody and nowhere to call home."
Anna: "No Lizzie...YOU made us aware...even though you were sneaking bread out from under our noses-"
Lizzie: "I can't. I don't-"
Anna: "No excuses, Lizzie...be the light. Make them hear your voice."
Lizzie: "Anna..."
Anna: "No ma'am. I worry...you won't talk to me..."
Lizzie: "Ouch. That's all it IS to you...a story."
Anna: "No! It isn't, Lizzie."
Echos: "He's coming...Yellow Jack...for you..." Lizzie: "But I don't want to end up like you!"
Anna: "Oh."
(LAST ONE) Peter: "Along with this Society and Ms. Margaret Haughrey." Fink & Geo: "The bread lady." Moab: "Mr. Poydras worked for many years helping neglected orphans and widow in the city of New Orleans."
Anna: "Over 150 years since it transpired, evidence of the Yellow Fever Epidemic can still be found in New Orleans' cemeteries."
Ms. Margaret: "Do you really think it's wise to let Lizzie spend so much time with those children?"
Anna: "She's quite smitten with them. I guess she can relate...in a sense..."
Lizzie: "OWWW!"
Anna: "Shhh. (Sigh) Everytime I look into your eyes, and see a piece of him...I smile and thank God for that moment with that man that gave me YOU. Ribbon? I want you to be so much more than I am...than I will ever be."
Lizzie: "Lucky?"
Anna: "They have you."
Lizzie: "They're fun."
Anna: "They're lucky."
Ms. Margaret: "And if they would just spend that money to help these children rather than kick them out..."
Anna: "They're only in it for themselves."
Lizzie: "Mother, it was nothing."
Anna: "Was it him again?"
