branches of tibial nerve

articular, muscular, medial sural cutaneous, medial calcaneal, medial and lateral plantar nerves

deep fibular nerve

has muscular and articular branches -terminates into medial and lateral branches on the dorsum of the foot *branches from common fibular in the LATERAL compartment of the leg* --> but then it courses anteriorly so it innervates anterior leg muscles and dorsum of foot

superficial fibular nerve

*branches from the common fibular nerve in the LATERAL COMPARTMENT, and it innervates the lateral leg muscles* -becomes cutaneous when it pierces the deep fascia, just proximal to the ankle *muscular and cutaneous branches*

saphenous nerve has what type of innervation?

ONLY cutaneous

why does damage to the superficial fibular nerve results in inverted foot?

bc it innervates the lateral compartment leg muscles, which are responsible for eversion

lateral sural cutaneous nerve

branches from common fibular at the popliteal fossa -gives off a communicating branch that unites with the medial sural cutaneous nerve = sural nerve

tibial nerve

branches from sciatic nerve before the popliteal fossa -pierces the deep transverse fossa --> in the deep posterior leg compartment -terminates = medial and lateral plantar nerves (proximal to the porta pedis) *courses with the posterior tibial vessels*

sciatic nerve

branches into common fibular nerve and tibial nerve in the distal 1/3 of thigh (before the popliteal fossa)

sural nerve

comes from medial and lateral cutaneous nerves -->formed at the posterior 1/3 of leg -courses laterally with the small saphenous nerve -continues on the dorsolateral aspect of the foot -it becomes the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve

branches of saphenous nerve

infrapatellar, anterior branch, and posterior branch -it comes from the femoral nerve

anterior branch of saphenous nerve

innervates skin on dorsomedial aspect of foot UP TO 1st MTP

infrapatellar branch of saphenous nerve

innervates skin over tibial tuberosity

posterior branch of saphenous nerve

innervates the sin around medial malleoulus

what 2 joints does the tibial nerve cross?

knee and ankle

branches of the sural nerve

lateral dorsal cutaneous and lateral calcaneal nerves

branches of common fibular nerve

lateral sural cutaneous and *TERMINAL* branches = superficial fibular and deep fibular
