Manufacturing Technology
Thermoforming
A forming process that produces plastic parts of all shapes.
Casting
A process in which an industrial material is first made into a liquid. The liquid is poured into a mild, and the material is allowed, or caused , to solidify. The material is finally removed from the mold and finished.
Custom Manufacturing
A process in which products are designed and built to individual specifications.
Shearing
A separation action that removes excess material breaking it into two parts. Scissors, tin snips and shears are sharing tools.
Die
A set of metal blocks used to cut out, form, and stamp material.
Tooling
A special device that holds a part while it is being manufactured. It is designed to make manufacturing more efficient.
Continuous Manufacturing
A system in which the parts move down a line. Workers at different stations complete specific tasks. The product takes up shape, as it moves down the line. Completed parts are put together to form the finish product.
Intermittent manufacturing
A system that produces parts of a finished product in batches.
Flexible Manufacturing
A system that uses complex machines computers control. It can produce small lots like intermittent manufacturing, but it uses continuous manufacturing actions.
Separation
A type of process that removes unwanted potions of a workpiece.
Conditioning
An action altering and improving the internal structure of materials. This action will change the properties of the material.
Secondary Processing
Changing industrial materials into usable products.
Machining
Changing raw materials into useful products for public use.
Primary processing
Converting raw materials into industrial materials.
Forging
Forming hot material by heating it and shaping it with a hammer.
Quality
In manufacturing ,The degree or grade of excellence in a product.
Finishing
Protecting and beautifying the surface of a material.
Molding
Shaping a part or product with the use of a mold.
Forming
Squeezing, or stretching materials into the desired shape. It also includes bending, shaping, stamping, crushing.
Inspection
The act of checking parts and products for quality.
Advertising
The act of making a product or business known to the public. Advertisements can be placed in newspapers and magazines, aired on radio or television, or displayed on billboards and signs.
Assembling
The act of putting parts together.
Pilot run
The use of a manufacturing system to produce test products.
Flame cutting
Using burning gases to melt away unwanted materials.
Firing
Using heat to condition ceramic materials.
