how do you work out prime factors?

an easy way to do this is to use a factor tree method 1) start with the number and split it into factors 2) every time you get a prime number put a circle around it. 3) keep going until you can't go any further and your just left with primes. Then write the numbers as a product of it's primes e.g 7x5x3x5x2 = 1050

What is standard form?

standard form is useful for writing very big or small numbers in an easier way to deal with them. e.g. A x 10

What is surds?

surds are expression with irrational square roots in them. e.g. √2 = 1.414213562......

What's a multiple?

the multiples of a number are just it's times table.

What is lowest common multiple?

the smallest number that will divide by all the numbers in the question

What is highest common factor?

this is defined as the biggest number that will divide into all the numbers in the question

What is a prime number?

•prime numbers are special integers that only divide by themselves and 1. e.g 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29.........

What is a factor?

The factor of a number are all of those numbers which divide into it. e.g. what are the factors of 48? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, 16
