Strategic Rebranding Intern/ Global Research Institute

this past summer I was working for the Global Research Institute as a Strategic Rebranding Intern. Basically it was my job to help rebrand them. So at the beginning I was doing lots of research- internal audits, reviewing current messaging, and interviewing stakeholders. Then presenting recommendations for how the organization should proceed. This included redefining our mission and target market, renaming, and creating a set of brand guidelines for new projects. After getting the go ahead from our founders, the next step was articulating what we had found into this newfound brand. Codifying our purpose, mission, core values, beliefs, stories, etc. Coming up with a naming strategy which highlighted our beliefs. The next step was to come up with a visual identity and brand architecture which suited our needs.

talk about open innovation

FutureInsight conference. gathering of artists, biologists, engineers, etc. to collaborate on innovating automobiles. A future with autonomous vehicles How do we establish trust between humans and machines? Autonomous driving is going to be an integral part of our future. When it comes to this topic, Mercedes-Benz regards empathy and trust as central factors for the success and acceptance of the transformation. The concept of "informed trust" takes on great importance here: "People need to be able to quickly and reliably gauge what an autonomous vehicle is going to do next. The vehicle must therefore provide information about its intentions in a way that people can grasp immediately and intuitively," says Alexander Mankowsky, a futurologist at Daimler. Based on this information, the person needs to be able to decide what they are going to do and how they are going to respond to the situation. Among other innovations at FutureInsight, for this purpose Mercedes-Benz introduced concepts for a "cooperative vehicle". Projects with external providers demonstrate further possibilities for how future autonomous vehicles could communicate and work together with their surroundings. Cooperative Vehicle: The cooperative vehicle, based on an S-Class, features 360-degree light signalling. Turquoise light strips in the windscreen, the radiator grille, the headlamps, the exterior mirrors and the lower area of the windows indicate to pedestrians and surrounding traffic that the vehicle is operating in autonomous mode. Lamps on the roof provide information about the next actions that the vehicle is going to perform. Slow flashing means that the vehicle is braking. A stationary light shows that the vehicle is in autonomous driving mode, regardless whether it is driving or at a standstill. The lights on the roof also follow the movements of people at the side of the road and in front of the vehicle to signal that the vehicle is aware of their presence. In doing so, the cooperative vehicle recreates the natural eye contact that would have taken place between the driver and pedestrians. Rapid flashing indicates that it is about to move off. Autonomous Driving Platform: The concept comprising an autonomous drive platform with interchangeable modules for transporting cargo and passengers can communicate with its surroundings by means of "digital shadowing" on the body. For example, the shadow of a pedestrian will be displayed when the vehicle's 360-degree sensors perceive someone nearby. Due to this interaction, the pedestrian can feel confident that the vehicle has detected them and can act accordingly. Building on these innovations, Mercedes-Benz is now working on other solutions that provide vehicle occupants and passers-by with the same information about the vehicle's perceptions and subsequent actions. In addition, the vehicle occupants should be able to decide what the vehicle communicates outwardly. This creates a cocooning effect inside the vehicle so that the vehicle feels like a protected space for its passengers. Living Thing Waking Up: The cooperative S-Class also informs its surroundings that it is about to enter into operation while it is still at the side of the road. The light strips around the vehicle emit an appropriate light signal. The exterior mirrors fold out and first the rear of the vehicle lifts up followed by the front. These movements resemble a living thing that is waking up and stretching. People can understand this communication intuitively. 360 Communication: 360-degree light signalling is particularly important when it comes to keeping pedestrians informed. This finding is the result of several light studies that Mercedes-Benz has conducted at its test facility in Sindelfingen, as well as at the recently opened site in Immendingen under the direction of Stefanie Faas from Daimler's Innowerkstatt (innovation workshop). The research looked at how pedestrians react to different signalling autonomous vehicles in various traffic situations. It became clear that light signalling has a strong effect on the acceptance of autonomously driving vehicles, as well as on how safe pedestrians feel. In particular, people wish for light signalling in situations where there was before interaction with the driver.

Creating clear messages and exciting stories for our website, social media channels and internal newsletter.

Questions to ask

-favorite part about the job -opportunities for growth -typical day in this role look like -how does this branch give back to the community

Senior Programming/Delta Gamma

-organized and planned all of the social events for seniors. This includes things like senior photos, painting and pastries at the house, senior recommitment ceremonies. -facilitated educational meetings for seniors on alumni, networking, and professional development post graduation

On potential campaigns

-#whyitmatters #getbacktowhatmatters At the end of the day, although yes Mercedes-Benz is a car company, it's all about how our new technology and automobiles impact people's lives. It's about what this technology will allow them to do. How will they spend this free time? How does it make them feel? I want to create a campaign that highlights the emotionality behind it all. That hones in on the increased human connectivity that our new features allow them to have. The new goals it lets them reach. For example with autonomous vehicles- now it stops dad from running over the cat because it darted out in front of him. Or being able to play with the kids in the backseat without having to worry. Or if we're trying to focus on strong women. [how bout michelle obama, women breaking the boundary in sports (surfers, rock climbers, runners, gymnasts, chefs, politicians), or music, or in their careers]. What about a female doctor who's car allows her to get to the office in time to treat her patient. Single mothers who are strong as hell.

AMG

Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach. Vehicle engine is designed by one person. Each AMG engine builder stamps the engines they produce with an engraved plaque depicting their signature. According to Mercedes-Benz, there are only about 50 AMG engine builders. AMG is the performance division/trim of Mercedes-Benz. AMG Mercedes-Benz automobiles are tuned in a specific way and upgraded for additional power. These vehicles also provide extra-sporty handling and more stylish aesthetics. The AMG engineering team invests the time and effort necessary to hand build each engine. These engines make the vehicles that much more exclusive and consequently, more coveted by automobile enthusiasts around the world. . All of these qualities add up to distinguish AMG vehicles from so-called "normal" vehicles.

Car to X

Expressed in simple terms, Car-to-X communication is the "radio-based exchange of information between vehicles, as well as between vehicles and traffic infrastructure," declares Dr. Christian Weiss, responsible for Car-to-X communication at Mercedes-Benz Development. "This has the advantage that we are also able to obtain information from points far outside the driver's field of vision, which is not the case with conventional sensors." This information provides the basis for a number of new assistance functions which complement the existing systems. "Car-to-X communication helps us let the driver know of hazardous situations early on.

How does Mercedes demonstrate AI?

Houndify but also NVIDIA soon? Through deep learning, vehicles will "learn" to understand its environment. Connected to the cloud, a Mercedes will develop into an adaptable co-pilot that permanently keeps an eye on safety and comfort of its passengers, both inside and outside the vehicle. Economics Degree

I have lots of experience with economic research and data analysis. I have research experience with statistical analysis software like STATA and SQL. This is very helpful when measuring the impact of different marketing choices or when trying to gather and graphically present data from new marketing content launches. I'm literate in numbers and am very good at translating quantitative data into qualitative results. In my Economic Statistics classes and Econometrics classes, I frequently examined large sets of data, used graphs or charts to model the trends found, and then decided the strongest course of action for the organization involved going forward. I've taken courses in Econometrics, Economic Statistics, Environmental Economics, Economics of the public sector, Economics of Healthcare, International Trade Theory, and International Finance. In the past some of my projects have included looking at fuel tax rates on environmentally friendly transportation methods, the effect of economic downturns on mental health and substance abuse.

Why do you want to work here?

I like consistently pushing the boundaries of what's possible in my own life and in the world at large. I feel like working for Mercedes benz research and development branch, you all are really at the forefront of the automobile industry, pushing barriers with ai, environmentally friendly/electronic cars to reduce carbon emissions, trying to make things safer for the average consumer, and I think i personally would really enjoy an environment where the goal is literally to innovate what's next. The only limits are the limits we place on ourselves. The people who are working here are the movers and shakers, the pioneers, deciding what things would be cool/more efficient etc. and I like being a part of a community that's never satisfied/ always wants to figure out ways to improve things around them. They're actively engaging in their world and trying to figure out ways to make things better for the automobile industry. They're active participants in their careers and I'd assume personal lives as well, and honestly I love being around that type of person. [thus startups and ecenter]

what do you want to learn?

I want to further my knowledge of the automobile innovation industry and the engineering side of things. Although I've worked with teams a millionx in the past, I've never worked with people creating the next wave of technology/setting the trends. I'm excited to be able to translate and communicate our new innovations from technical terms into meaningful, easy to understand and engaging stories or articles for potential consumers and internal audiences. Open Innovation. Diversity breeds creativity and innovation so I'd be really excited to learn from such a variety of experts in their fields. Hearing different perspectives on how to craft solutions or improve current technology.

talk about wearables

Steering wheel as health tracker Wearable technology could also take on important functions in cars and thus prevent potential accidents caused by health-related issues. The data collected can not only determine the health data of drivers when they are in the car, but also collect data on their health through the use of other devices when they are not in the car. Imagine a steering wheel that measures one's blood sugar level or a seat that warns drivers when they are slouching unhealthily in their seat. We can assume that end users will increasingly expect to be made aware of their health-related data.

Talk about digital assistants and smart home

Talking to Your Car as the Norm. Alexa was originally used in Amazon Echo, a cylindrical speaker for the home. Its basic skills include creating to-do lists, playing Spotify playlists, securing the smart home, and controlling intelligent household appliances, thermostats and light bulbs. At CES, a number of different car manufacturers announced that they now intend to make the on-board computers in their vehicles accessible to Alexa - especially Ford and VW. Nissan and BMWalso presented their integrations of Cortana, which is the intelligent personal assistant from Microsoft. Daimler AG was one of the first OEMs to integrate Google Assistant, announcing its integration into its Mercedes-Benz models before CES 2017. This enables destination data to be communicated to the car via the intelligent speaker Google Home. In addition, this can be used from home to start the air conditioning in the car in advance or check the petrol level. In the future, every Mercedes-Benz should be part of an intelligent ecosystem that can also be voice-controlled. In some markets, Mercedes-Benz customers will already be able to communicate with their vehicles using Google Home or Amazon Alexa from this year. Daimler AG places importance on absolute integrity here when it comes to protecting user data. Confidential, personal information collected by the artificial intelligence in the car stays in the car. It will not be stored on other devices or in the Cloud. Only general, non-personal data is uploaded to the Cloud and analysed, e.g. to enable car-to-car communication. Lip-Reading Commands. During the "Inspiration Talk: Connectivity", the CEO of NVIDIA, Jen-Hsun Huang, spoke as things stand with Mercedes-Benz about the increasing merging of reality and virtuality, which is already starting to make people's lives easier. NVIDIA's Co-Pilot was cited as an example of this. This collects data from sensors which are positioned on the inside and outside of the car. A profile of the car's environment is created from this. On this basis, drivers can be informed about how their driving behaviour can be improved. Thanks to artificial intelligence, Co-Pilot also reacts to voice commands such as "Take me home" and is even able to lip-read the driver's commands. Could the future sound any better?

what about blockchain innovations

hackathon How blockchain uses decentralized ledgers is through a database spread across several nodes or computing devices. Each node replicates and saves an identical copy of the ledger, updating itself independently without needed a centralized third party. Compared to the traditional way of transactions on the internet, blockchain has many advantages without the need for a centralized third party. It's fast, and (importantly) it's highly resistant to getting hacked. Already, blockchain has disrupted the financial industry — now it could disrupt how we use it on the road. Martin's team worked across the entire company to develop a prototype with Raspberry Pi processors. As the use of vehicles evolves to include more rideshare options — and even carsharing consumption models — tracking and monitoring vehicle usage, maintenance and availability will become increasingly complex.
