MIS Chapter 9
Specialized systems: AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) simulates human thinking and behavior, such as the ability to reason and learn
Three layers of corporate managerial decision making
Strategic - Unstructured decisions Managerial - Semistructured decisions Operational - Structured decisions
What is the goal of artificial intelligence?
To increase the speed and consistency of decision making, solve problems with incomplete information, and resolve complicated issues that cannot be solved by conventional computing
What is a TPS and its purpose, function?
Transaction Processing System, it is the basic business system that serves the operational level(analysts) and assists in making structured decisions. Example is a payroll system or an order-entry system
Virtual Reality
a computer-simulated environment that can be a simulation of the real world or an imaginary world.
Intelligent Agents and how they work
a special-purpose knowledge-based information system that accomplishes specific tasks on behalf of its users.
Executive Support Systems (ESS), purpose use?
a specialized DSS that supports senior-level executives and unstructured, long-term, nonroutine decisions requiring judgment, evaluation, and insight. These decisions do not have a right or wrong answer, only efficient and effective answers.
Genetic Algorithms and how they work
a system that mimics the evolutionary, survival-of-the-fittest process to generate increasingly better solutions to a problem.
Neural Networks and how they work
attempts to emulate the way the human brain works.
Expert Systems and how they work
computerized advisory programs that imitate the reasoning processes of experts in solving difficult problems.
Decision Support System components(both internal and external sources of data)
models information to support managers and business professionals during the decision-making process.
Is virtual reality artificial intelligence?
yes
