Name the original 6 states to leave the Union and form the C.S.A.: The six original states to leave the union were TX,LA,Mississippi,Alabama,FL,GA. What was the big difference between the C.S.A and U.S.A? The CSA was a nation created by the south states when they left the union also it guaranteed to citizens of slaveholders. The USA would no longer spread it. Who became president of the newly formed C.S.A? The president became, Jefferson Davis. Why were the Southerners so nervous about Abe Lincoln being president of the US? They were nervous about AL being president because of his position on slavery. They thought that they would loose political power because of him. What were some reasons given by South Carolina as to why they could legally leave the United States of America: Their reason were states rights and they had voluntarily joined the union so they can voluntary leave. Do you believe that the southern states had the right to secede:No Why or why not: They were given the land it was not theirs it was the countrys. Also I feel like it was very illegal.

John Browns Raid

When did this attempt at an uprising begin: The attempt of the uprising began in October 16th, 1859. Where did it take place? The attempt of the uprising took place in Harpers Ferry Virginia. In your own words what was John Brown's plan to accomplish this uprising(Look at the paragraph above the highlighted term John Brown's raid): John Brown wanted to attack arsenal in Va but arming slaves near by. He tried to recruit abolitionists to give him money so that he could be able to care for the army. Brown was going to harm and kill the southerners that tried to fight him. It took him two years to get 20 men. Who was he hoping would help finance this revolt: He was hoping The abolitionist would finance this revolt. When the day came for the revolt how many slaves showed up, why: When the day came no slaves came because they were scared of punishment. Describe what happened the night of the uprising: On the night of Oct 16,1859, John Browns raid never happened. None of the saves he'd hoped would come showed up up at the country side. Afterr, he went with his few men to Harpers Ferry where they were attacked by white southerners near by. Some John Brown men were killed and him and other taken into custody. Who arrested John Brown: John Brown was arrested by Colonel Robert E Lee. What happened to JohnBrown after he was arrested: After John Brown was arrested he was charged with treason and murder and sentence to hanging. How did the northerner and southerners react to John Brown and his death: Some Northners reacted by mourning others criticized his actions. For the Southerners some felt as if John Brown actions were threatening and said that they were afraid of someone else coming like John Brown. Why did some abolitionists disagree with Brown's action? They felt as if John Brown actions were extreme and weren't needed.

John C Crittenden tried to convince them not to leave to the union by adding slavery to the constitution so that it can be protected.

Election of 1860

How many official political parties ran for the election this year? How many candidates? There were four candidates and three official political parties. Why did the Democrats have two different candidates? They had different candidates cause they couldn't agree on one. What was the NorthernDemocrats platform that they ran during the election: The Northern Democrats platform was popular sovereignty. What was the Southern Democrats platform they ran on: The Southern Democrats platform ran on slavery. What was the Republican Platform they ran on? The republican platform ran on "slavery should be left undisturbed; but should not spread" What was the goal of Douglas, Breckinridge, and Bell in the election: Their goal was to win enough electoral votes to prevent lincoln from winning in the Electoral collage. How did Lincoln and the Republicans end up winning the election" Lincoln ended up winning because the democrats were being split which meant the votes were split on election day and that they couldn't win any of the northern states. Why were southerners so upset about the results of the election: This angered the southerners because he didn't campaign to their region and he had barley and support of the of the southerns and he won.
