quadriceps

Quadriceps femoris muscle, large fleshy muscle group covering the front and sides of the thigh. It has four parts: rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermedius.

external oblique

The external oblique muscle (of the abdomen) (also external abdominal oblique muscle) is the largest and the most superficial (outermost) of the three flat muscles of the lateral anterior abdomen.

fibularis longus

The fibularis longus, also referred to as the peroneus longus, is a muscle inside the outer area of the human leg, which everts (bends in an outward direction) and flexes the ankle. ... Blood flow to this muscle is provided by the fibular artery.

gracilis

The gracilis muscle (/ˈɡræsɪlɪs/) (Latin for "slender") is the most superficial muscle on the medial side of the thigh. It is thin and flattened, broad above, narrow and tapering below.

hamstring group

The hamstrings are a group of muscles and their tendons at the rear of the upper leg. They include the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus. The hamstrings flex the knee joint, adduct the leg, and extend the thigh to the backside of the body. They are used in walking and running.

rectus abdominis

each of a pair of long flat muscles at the front of the abdomen, joining the sternum to the pubis and acting to bend the whole body forward or sideways.

latissimus dorsi

either of a pair of large, roughly triangular muscles covering the lower part of the back, extending from the sacral, lumbar, and lower thoracic vertebrae to the armpits.

gluteus medius

medical Definition of gluteus medius. plural glutei medii \-dē-ˌī\ : the middle of the three muscles in each buttock that arises from the outer surface of the ilium, that is inserted into the greater trochanter of the femur, and that acts to abduct and medially rotate the thigh.

Biceps femoris

one of the posterior femoral muscles. It has two heads at its origin. The biceps femoris flexes the leg and rotates it laterally and extends the thigh, rotating it laterally. It is one of the hamstring muscle group and lies on the posterior, lateral side of the thigh.

vastus lateralis

the division of the quadriceps muscle that covers the outer anterior aspect of the femur, arises chiefly from the femur, and inserts into the outer border of the patella by a flat tendon which blends with that of the other divisions of the muscle and sends an expansion to the capsule of the knee

gastrocnemius

Function. Along with the soleus muscle, the gastrocnemius forms half of the calf muscle. Its function is plantar flexing the foot at the ankle joint and flexing the leg at the knee joint.

Adductor group

In human anatomy, the adductor muscles of the hip are a group of muscles of the thigh, mostly used for bringing the thighs together.

tibialis anterior

In human anatomy, the tibialis anterior (/ˌtɪbiˈeɪlɪs/ or /ˌtɪbiˈælɪs/) is a muscle that originates in the upper two-thirds of the lateral (outside) surface of the tibia and inserts into the medial cuneiform and first metatarsal bones of the foot. It acts to dorsiflex and invert the foot.

soleus

In humans and some other mammals, the soleus is a powerful muscle in the back part of the lower leg (the calf). It runs from just below the knee to the heel, and is involved in standing and walking.

rectus femoris

The quadriceps femoris (/ˈkwɒdrɪsɛps ˈfɛmərɪs/) (Latin for "four-headed muscle of the femur"), also called simply the quadriceps, quadriceps extensor, or quads, is a large muscle group that includes the four prevailing muscles on the front of the thigh.

semimembranosus

The semimembranosus (/ˌsɛmimɛmbrəˈnoʊsəs/) is the medial-most of the three hamstring muscles. It is so named because it has a flat tendon of origin. It lies posteromedially in the thigh, deep to the semitendinosus.

semitendinosus

The semitendinosus muscle is one of three hamstring muscles that are located at the back of the thigh. The other two are the semimembranosus muscle and the biceps femoris. The semitendinosus muscle lies between the other two. These three muscles work collectively to flex the knee and extend the hip.

transversus abdominis

The transverse abdominal muscle (TVA), also known as the transverse abdominis, transversalis muscle and transversus abdominis muscle, is a muscle layer of the anterior and lateral (front and side) abdominal wall which is deep to (layered below) the internal oblique muscle.

trapezius

The trapezius is one of the major muscles of the back and is responsible for moving, rotating, and stabilizing the scapula (shoulder blade) and extending the head at the neck. It is a wide, flat, superficial muscle that covers most of the upper back and the posterior of the neck.

vastus medialis

The vastus medialis is a muscle present in the anterior compartment of thigh, and is one of the four muscles that make up the quadriceps muscle.

sartorius

a long, narrow muscle running obliquely across the front of each thigh from the hipbone to the inside of the leg below the knee.

gluteus maximus

any of three muscles in each buttock that move the thigh, the largest of which is the gluteus maximus.
