NTD 2239 ---Nutrition Syllabus Quiz
You will complete a graded quiz for each chapter in LaunchPad. You can review your graded chapter quiz attempts to see what you missed to help you study for the exam. Select one: True False
False Graded chapter quiz attempts cannot be reviewed. This feature is in place to encourage academic honesty and discourage cheating. However, you may also complete optional Practice Quizzes for each chapter. As long as you attempt the quiz before the deadline, you can go back in and see your attempt. The practice quizzes are helpful study tools.
The optional activities in LaunchPad (such as animations, animation quizzes, and practice quizzes) are not assigned, but I will get extra credit if I complete them. Select one: True False
False -Several animations and animation quizzes may be available for each chapter as an additional resource for concept comprehension. These optional activities must be "assigned" for you to have access to them in LaunchPad. They have a due date but no point value assigned to them. -LaunchPad will say that you have only completed a small percentage of the assigned activities, even after the required activities have been completed. -The only activities that earn points toward your grade in this class are listed in the syllabus and in the LaunchPad gradebook; all other optional activities do not earn any points and are not worth extra credit.
If I purchase a hard copy of the textbook from somewhere other than the ISU Bookstore, it will also come with LaunchPad access. Select one: True False
False Hard copies of the textbook may be purchased from many sources, but keep in mind: 1) They may not include the metabolism content. You will have access to this content through the e-book, but you will lose access to the e-book after 6 months. 2) Hard copies may or may not include LaunchPad access, and even if they DO, the access code could have been used previously. You must have LaunchPad access to complete most of the activities in this course.
If I have questions or concerns, I should just keep them to myself and not contact the instructor because she can read my mind. Select one: True False
False Please reach out with questions and concerns! Students who keep in touch with me are typically more successful than those who don't. Your questions help me know which aspects of the course might need to be improved so I can provide a quality learning experience. Additionally, if you experience challenges, it is easier for me to help you work through them if I am in the loop.
Exams: Are only open for one week, and I must take them during the exam window. Are proctored. I can find out more about how to schedule a proctored exam in Moodle. Scores are not released until the exam window closes. Until then, it will say "dropped" in the Moodle gradebook. This does not mean the exam was dropped - it just means I have to keep waiting until the exam deadline passes to see my score. Select one: True False
True
I should refer to the syllabus often throughout the semester because it is my guide for all of the required learning activities, and all of the due dates are listed in the syllabus for the entire semester. Select one: True False
True
There is no comprehensive final exam in this course. Instead, the Case Study Assignment that is due during finals week counts as the final assessment for this class. Select one: True False
True The Case Study Assignment will highlight Nutrition Through the Lifecycle topics. The assignment will include activities that require you to reference different nutrition information you have learned throughout the semester to solve a case study about a patient in a specific life stage. There will be no comprehensive final exam; this assignment counts as the final assessment for this course.
In addition to LearningCurve Activities and Quizzes for each chapter, I will complete THREE assignments this semester in NTD 2239. Select one: True False
True Assignments: Three assignments will be completed in LaunchPad during the course: 1. Critical Review of a Scientific Research Article Assignment (Due Unit 2) 2. Diet Analysis Assignment (Due Unit 4) 3. Case Study Assignment (Counts as final exam; due Finals Week)
Two units will be open at one time. This means I can move ahead if I want, but I have to wait until one unit ends for the next unit to open up. Select one: True False
True Example: Units 1 and 2 will be open on day 1 of class. As soon as Unit 1 ends, Unit 3 will open. Now Units 2 and 3 are open. As soon as Unit 2 ends, Unit 4 will open. Now Units 3 and 4 are open. As soon as Unit 3 ends, Unit 5 will open. Now Units 4 and 5 are open.
A course tutor will be available for this class after a few weeks. I must pay an additional fee for this service. Select one: True False
false A tutor is available for this course and is ready to start now. The tutor can work with individuals or groups. Content Area Tutoring (CAT) is a free service for all students and can be utilized for any class. To sign up for free CAT services, please contact the ISU CAT Program or fill out theTutor Request Formon the CAT website.
If life gets in the way, the instructor is not willing to work with you to make arrangements for flexibility...so don't even think about asking for flexibility with assignments, even if you really need it! Select one: True False
false If you are experiencing extenuating life challenges that are impacting your ability to complete course activities by the deadlines, I am happy to work with you. To get the process started, please follow these steps: 1. Contact the Dean of Students office to discuss options for flexibility 2. Email me to keep me in the loop 3. The Dean of Students office will contact your instructors if warranted
If I choose not to complete all of the optional activities iin LaunchPad and only complete what is required (...which includes only the learning activities listed in the syllabus...), LaunchPad will tell me I have completed 100% of the assigned activities. Select one: True False
false LaunchPad provides a % completion bar that tells you how many of the assigned activities you have completed for each chapter. If you only complete the required assignments, there are multiple other optional assignments that have been "assigned". The only way to make them available in LaunchPad is for me to assign a due date. As a result, you will see you have only completed a small percentage of the assigned activities. Don't worry, though! As long as you have completed the assigned course activities listed in the syllabus, you are all set.
You will complete a LearningCurve activity in LaunchPad each week. These are due every week on Mondays. Select one: True False
false LearningCurve activities are due on Wednesday each week.
Zoom meetings may be held throughout the semester. These meetings will be required, and if I am unable to attend, I will lose participation points and miss important course updates. Select one: True False
false There may be some OPTIONAL Zoom meetings offered throughout the semester. These will be held on FRIDAYS from 12-1. If you would like to attend but are not able to make it, the recordings will be posted in a folder on the course Moodle page.
Both unit exams and chapter quizzes are proctored. Select one: True False
false Unit exams are proctored, but chapter quizzes are not. Quizzes are taken in LaunchPad and do not require an appointment with a proctor. The five unit exams are proctored, which means you will need to schedule an appointment with a proctor to take your exam. Exams can be taken with a proctor either in person at an ISU Testing Center or online with a live Examity proctor.
If I choose to take proctored exams online, I must use a computer with both a webcam and microphone. Select one: True False
true
Late submissions will earn no points, and there are no opportunities for extensions if I miss an assignment deadline....so I should write all the due dates listed in the syllabus in my calendar right now to make sure I don't miss anything! Select one: True False
true
LaunchPad access is required for this course, which includes access to the e-book. A hard copy of the book is NOT required unless students prefer a printed copy of the textbook. Select one: True False
true At a minimum, LaunchPad access is required to complete this course. When you get your LaunchPad access code, you will get access to the e-book for 6 months. Online resources are well suited for some learning styles, but not all! A looseleaf printed copy of the book is available as an option through the ISU Bookstore for those who prefer hard copies of the textbook. Bound hard copies can also be purchased through other distributors, but they may not include LaunchPad access. If you are going into a health-related field, especially Dietetics, I recommend that you purchase a hard copy of the textbook! You will lose access to the e-book after 6 months, and you will likely reference this textbook in the future, especially if you are taking more nutrition courses.
NTD 2239 is a science-based course that contributes to meeting General Education Objective 5, Scientific Ways of Knowing. This means there will be a lot of science-related principles covered throughout this course, and it is much more than just an introductory nutrition course. Select one: True False
true Yep, it's true. This is a science course. Yes - we will cover nutrition basics, but we will also talk about digestion, absorption, metabolism, and other basic chemistry and biology principles. We will also cover the scientific process and discuss in detail exactly why nutrition is a science-based discipline!
If I want to know my current grade in the class at any time, I can use the Grade Calculation Sheet posted in Moodle. Because LaunchPad and Moodle don't communicate with each other, my LaunchPad scores need to be entered manually and will only be entered into Moodle twice during the semester. I just need to look at the LaunchPad gradebook and the Moodle gradebook to get my scores for activities completed in each platform. Select one: True False
true Yep, this is true at the moment. However, I am currently working with IT support to get LaunchPad and Moodle on speaking terms so that the LaunchPad gradebook will upload automatically in Moodle. If anything changes with this process, I will let you know!
