Summary and response essay
An essay that gives writers the opportunity to evaluate and express opinions about an author's ideas. It contains a summary of a work and a response from the writer.
Thesis
In the Summary-Response essay, it says how the writer responds to the author's ideas. It includes the author's name and a beginning like "I agree/don't agree..." for example.
Introductory Paragraph
This gives the reader basic information about the article: it includes the author's name, the title of the article, the author's main idea, and the student's very own thesis.
Summary Paragraph
To briefly summarize the main points of an article with supporting details or examples to back up those points in the original article. It can be more than one paragraph.
Response Paragraph
To evaluate and respond to the author's ideas by using personal examples, opinions, or facts from other sources to support your ideas.
Concluding paragraph
To summarize the author's main ideas, to point out your own thesis, and to make final comments.
Title of the article
quotes must be added around it; and it has to be mentioned in the introductory paragraph along with the author's name, etc.
Paraphrase
to summarize; to put text into your own words, no more than 3-4 words in a row can be copied
