What is the balanced equation of photosynthesis?

6CO2 + 6H20 --------------C6H12O6 + 6O2 sunlight

What is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration?

Aerobic respiration requires oxygen, and and anaerobic respiration doesn't. Anaerobic respiration is called fermentation, in which a cell can make ATP without oxygen.

What is the effect of bringing an alien species into an environment?

Alien species will start to eat random organisms because they don't know what to eat, and they haven't quite adapted to their environment. They don't have natural predators. So, other animals won't get enough food because the alien species is eating their prey.

What is meant by metabolism?

An organisms ability to break down food and nutrients. It is a series of chemical reactions that keeps the organism living and growing.

What is the relationship between plants and animals in a food web?

Animals and plants all depend on each other in a food web. For example, plants conduct photosynthesis, which gives off oxygen for the animals to breathe in. When the animals breathe it in, they use it for a process called cellular respiration. Also, when animals breathe out carbon dioxide, plants use it as a reactant for photosynthesis. And, animals depend on the plant as food for them to survive.

What are autotrophs, heterotrophs, decomposers, producers, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, and consumers (1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree)? Where are they found on a food web.

Autotrophs are organisms that can create their own food, and are found at the bottom of the food web. Heterotrophs are organisms that eat other organisms, and can be found anywhere above autotrophs on the food web, depending on their degree. Decomposers are organisms that feed on the waste of dead organisms. They are found at the bottom of the food web. Producers are organisms that can create their own food, and are found at the bottom of the food web. Herbivores are organisms that only eat producers, and are found just above producers. Carnivores are animals that only eat other consumers, and are found at the top of the food web. Omnivores are organisms that eat both producers and other consumers, and can be found anywhere above plants on the food web. Consumers are organisms that eat other producers and/or consumers, and are found anywhere above plants on the food web.

How do you create a food web?

Basically, in any given ecosystem, there are plants and animals that eat each other. Most animals have both predators and prey in the food web, unless they are at the very top or the very bottom. You basically look at an organism, and find all of their predators and prey. Then you connect them. For example, if an eagle eats a fish, you would draw an arrow from the fish pointing at the eagle, which shows that the eagle eats the fish. You continue to do this with each organism until you have one big web.

What is the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration?

Both equations are exact opposites of each other. The products of photosynthesis are the reactants of cellular respiration, and vice versa. Only autotrophs can conduct photosynthesis, but every organism can conduct cellular respiration.

What is the balanced equation of cellular respiration?

C6H12O6 + 6O2 ----------- 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP

What are the reactants and products of fermentation?

C6H12O6 ------- 6CO2 + ATP + Alcoholic or Lactic Acid

What happens during photosynthesis?

Carbon dioxide is taken from the air through the stomata of a plant. Water from rain goes into the soil and through the roots of the plant. Sunlight is absorbed by the plant's chlorophyll and is used to split water into H and O. When these materials react, oxygen is released through the stomata, and glucose is either stored in the plant as starch, or it is used in chemical reactions.

What does ATP represent?

Energy for the organism to function and do its job

How is cellular respiration important to a food web?

Every organism conducts cellular respiration. Each organism has to conduct this process to produce ATP, or energy. This gives the organism the ability to live and function.

What would happen if over hunting/fishing, over population, and pollution etc. impacted an ecosystem?

If people over hunt or fish, eventually, that species will become endangered or extinct. So if all fish are gone, the fish's prey become abundant because no one is eating them. But eventually, there will be so many of this organism that there won't be enough food to go around. The fish's predators will run out of food, and they will become endangered, too. If pollution gets into this ecosystem , many organisms won't be able to survive because certain necessities like oxygen will be blocked off, and they will die.

Where does photosynthesis take place in the cell?

In the chloroplasts of the cell.

Where does fermentation take place?

In the cytoplasm of a cell.

What is the Law of Conservation of Mass/Matter?

It is the law that states that matter isn't created or destroyed in a chemical reaction.

Why does fermentation take place?

It takes place because the organism runs out of oxygen and starts producing lactic acid. The organism has to substitute CO2 for oxygen so that it can still produce ATP.

What's the difference between native and alien species?

Native species are organisms from a certain area that they're supposed to be in, and alien species are organisms that migrate from one area to another region that they're not familiar with.

Is energy required for cellular respiration?

No: Energy is required, but it is not needed to conduct cellular respiration. Exothermic energy is produced.

What happens during cellular respiration?

Oxygen and glucose are used as reactants in the mitochondria. When they react, two pyruvic are created in the cytoplasm. Once the pyruvic is brought into the mitochondria, and glucose breaks down the oxygen and glucose, CO2, H2O, and ATP are created.

How is photosynthesis important to a food web?

Plants use sunlight and carbon dioxide, which comes from other animals in the food web. Using these materials, they make oxygen, which they give off to other organisms, and glucose. Photosynthesis keeps a plant alive, and also provides food for organisms.

What are the reactants and products of photosynthesis?

Reactants: Carbon dioxide and water Products: Glucose and oxygen

What are the reactants and products of cellular respiration?

Reactants: Glucose and oxygen Products: Carbon dioxide, water, and ATP

What happens during fermentation?

Sugar is converted to alcohol or lactic acid when oxygen is gone. CO2 is produced.

Where is the most and least amounts of ATP created?

The least amounts of ATP are created in the cytoplasm. The most amounts of ATP are created in the Mitochondria.

Why is fermentation important to organisms?

When an organism shuts down because it doesn't have oxygen, it needs a substitute for oxygen, or it won't be able to function and work.

Is energy required in photosynthesis?

Yes: sunlight is needed to break down water. This is endothermic energy.
