How does changing the amplitude affect wavelength?

Amplitude does not affect wavelength. It also does not affect wave speed. Amplitude is the energy of the wave measured from the rest position to the top of the crest. A wave with more energy has a higher up crest/ higher amplitude.

How can we tell which direction sound is coming from?

Our brain times how long it takes for the sound to get to each ear. The one that hears the noise fastest must be the one that is the closest.

Using the particle model, explain why sound travels faster through a solid

Sound is transferred by compressing particles. If you are compressing something you need partticles to bump into one another in order for the compression to be passed on. Since solid particles are already touching it is very fast for them to transfer a compression. Gas particles are far apart, they take a while to get to the next particle to bump into.

What does your eardrum do?

Sound is transferred using the inner ear. The eardrum vibrates bones, that send waves into a shell-shaped structure. In the shell shaped structure (the cochlea) there are little hairs that are moved back and forth. This is how the information is gathered then sent tot he brain. The hair vibrations are transferred as a nerve impulse to the brain. The brain interprets that sound as high or low pitch.

How are frequency, wavelength, and wave speed related?

Wave speed = frequency x wavelength

it splatters it because the vibrations are strong enough to make it splash up

If the frequency increases, then the wavelength will be shorter, because there are more waves closer together.
