Properties of Addition and Multiplication
Commutative Property of Addition
Changing the order of the addends does not change the sum.
Commutative Property of Multiplication
Changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
Identity Property of Additon
If you add zero to a number, the sum is the same as that number. 7 + 0 = 7
Identity Property of Multiplication
If you multiply a number by one, the product is the same as that number. 9 x 1 = 9
Zero Property of Mulitplication
Multiplying by 0 results in a product of 0 8 x 0 = 0
Quotient
The answer to a division problem
Product
The answer to a multiplication problem
Difference
The answer to a subtraction problem
Sum
The answer to an addition problem
Associative Property of Multiplication
Changing the grouping of three or more factors does not change the product.
Associative Property of Additon
the way in which you group three or more numbers when adding does not change their sum - a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c
