Why recalling Prior Knowledge is important?
- Prior knowledge has long been considered the most important factor influencing learning and student achievement. - The amount and quality of prior knowledge positively influence both knowledge acquisition and the capacity to apply higher-order cognitive problem-solving skills.
SCHEMA
- are created based on experiences and are stored in memory for future use.
POSITIVE CANNOTATION
- are generally favorable associations toward a word.
NEUTRAL CANNOTATION
- bring up impartial associations towards a word
DENOTATION
- is a basic, precise, literal meaning of the word that can be found in the dictionary.
CANNOTATION
- is the positive, negative or neutral feelings, attitudes, ideas or associations with a word.
SKIMMING EFFECTIVELY
- means physically moving your eyes rapidly along the page and tracing your finger along the lines of the text to speed up your reading.
RECALLING BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE
- means that as you read, you make sense of the text by seeing how it fits with what you already know called Schema.
SKIMMING
- means you look for the main points of the reading and identify ideas that develop it. - another quick learning process. -
NEGATIVE CANNOTATION-
- tend to have unfavorable feelings or ideas about the word.
SCANNING
- the reader is looking for specific information.
