Minutemen scholarship

All qualified applicants for ROTC scholarships may apply for consideration for the 4-year Minuteman Scholarship. Each Army Reserve major subordinate command (MSC) can award four Minuteman Scholarships per year. Minuteman Scholarships cover four years of full tuition and fees or $10,000 for room and board at colleges and universities served by an Army ROTC program.

In order to qualify for these scholarships, you must:

Be a U.S. citizen Have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 Have a minimum score of 920 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT Complete the ROTC Basic Course requirements or Basic Combat Training Be medically and morally qualified

Minutemen Scholarship Eligibility:

Be a U.S. citizen • Between ages of 17-31 • Valid MEPS physical • Currently in the Army Reserve or eligible for enlistment • Ability to pass APFT • Meet AR 600-9 standards • Pass MSC commander Interview • Professor of Military Science validation • Acceptance letter to college • Proof of academic major • Proof of ACT or SAT scores • Enroll in ROTC

College Loan Repayment Program (LRP) Eligibility

Non-prior service, initial-term Army Reserve Soldiers on drilling status are eligible for the Loan Repayment Program if they meet the following conditions: Soldier must have LRP guaranteed in writing in the enlistment contract Soldier must decline enrollment in the GI Bill program in writing, using DD Form 2366. Soldier must enlist for a minimum of six years. Soldier must have a high school diploma and a score of 50 or higher on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). Soldier must enlist in one of the critical MOSs that qualifies for the program. (Local Army recruiters have the current list, which changes often depending on the current needs of the service.) Loans must be made, insured, or guaranteed prior to entry in the Army Reserve.

Early Commissioning Program

Recipients of the Early Commissioning Program (ECP) scholarships will receive financial assistance for 2-years at one of our 4 sponsoring Military Junior Colleges (MJC) in their pursuit of an Associate degree from the MJC and a commission in the U.S. Army. These Soldiers will continue on at a 4-year ROTC program school of their choice to complete a baccalaureate degree without any other ROTC benefits except for Educational Assistance Program (EAP) within 36 months. The EAP will pay either full tuition and fees or flat rate of $10,000 for room and board for up to 24 months. Acceptance of EAP will add one Additional Military Service Obligation (ADSO) for each year or partial year EAP is used. Upon commission, the MJC lieutenants will be required to select and join a unit in one of the Reserve Components in a drilling status, attending battle assemblies and annual training while working on their 4-year baccalaureate degree. These scholarships are also known as the "Ike Skelton Scholarship".

DEDICATED ARMY NATIONAL GUARD (DEDNG) SCHOLARSHIP

Recipients receive full tuition, plus up to $1,200 for books, and are paid a monthly allowance in the following amounts: $350 during sophomore year, $450 during junior year and $500 during senior year. Grad students can also apply if they have only two years remaining until they graduate. In addition to a monthly allowance, you can also receive the drill pay of a sergeant, approximately $225 per month, when you participate in the SMP.

GUARANTEED RESERVE FORCES DUTY (GRFD) SCHOLARSHIP

Similar to the DEDNG scholarship, the GRFD scholarship is mainly for students entering their junior year of college with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. They also must join the SMP of a Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) unit on their campus. GRFD recipients are funded each year at full tuition and receive $1,200 for books. They are given an ROTC allowance for 10 months of the year at $450 per month during their junior year and $500 per month during their senior year. As a member of the Guard, they will also receive drill pay.

LRP Benefit Highlights

The Army will repay 15 percent of the outstanding principal balance, less taxes of the Soldier's student loans annually or $1,500, whichever is greater, after each year of service (up to $20,000, less taxes).

Award Amount:

The Minuteman Scholarship covers full tuition and fees (uncapped) at any college or university served by an Army Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) program, or can be used toward room and board, capped at $10,000 per year. Scholarship recipients also receive a yearly book allowance of $1,200 and a monthly stipend from $300 to $500 while attending school, depending on their year in the ROTC program. • Minuteman Scholarship recipients must participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP), in which they participate in an Army Reserve unit monthly drill and a 14-day annual training and are paid as a sergeant. • After graduation and commissioning, Minuteman Scholarship recipients are guaranteed placement in the Army Reserve.

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

The SMP gives eligible enlisted members of the ARNG and USAR an opportunity to maintain status in their Reserve Component while simultaneously attending college and participating as a contracted Cadet in the ROTC Program working towards a Commission as an Officer. The SMP offers on-the-job training, reinforces the role of the Commissioned Officer in the Army, and gives ROTC Cadets the experience of working with Soldiers and Noncommissioned Officers in a Reserve Component Unit. All GRFD Cadets must participate in the SMP.

Federal Tuition Assistance

The Tuition Assistance (TA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Soldier's professional and personal self-development goals. TA is available for courses that are offered in the classroom or by distance learning and is part of an approved academic degree or certificate program. The courses must be offered by schools that are registered in GoArmyEd, are accredited by accrediting agencies that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and are signatories to the current Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding (DOD MOU). The Army will pay 100 percent of tuition costs up to the DoD semester hour cap of $250 per semester hour cap for up to 16 semester hours of TA funded courses per fiscal year. School fee charges of any type are no longer eligible for funding with TA.

Student Loan Repayment Program

is a special incentive that the Army offers to highly qualified applicants entering the Army. Under the LRP, the Army will repay part of a Soldier's qualifying student loans. Only specified Military Occupational Specialties (MOSs) qualify for the LRP.
