A line used to define the location of the imaginary cut that creates the matching section view

convectional breaks

The conventional break for a long solid rod is shown with "tear drop" shapes at the break line. (B) A similar approach is used for a conventional break of a hollow tube, indicating the hollow space in the "tear drop" shape. (C) As an alternative, the hollow tub is broken using a rough break line instead of a mating shape. In addition, the front view is shown as a full section and the right side view shows the inner and outer diameters. (D) The rough break line style can be also used to indicate the conventional break for a long solid bar, and for many other long objects with uniform cross-sectional areas.

Offset Sections

When sectioning through irregular objects, it is often desirable to show features that do not lie in a straight line by "offsetting" or bending the cutting plane.

Aligned Sections

used to include details of a part by "bending" the cutting plane.

Revolved or Rotated Sections

used to represent the cross sectional shape of a handle, spoke, or other elongated features

full Sections

is a complete, detailed cross sectional drawing of a building, usually around a load bearing wall

Removed Sections

is a revolved section that is not superimposed on the orthographic view but rather is placed elsewhere in the drawing

sectional views

is a view used on a drawing to show an area or hidden part of an object by cutting away or removing some of that object. The cut line is called a "cutting plane", and can be done in several ways

Broken-out Sections

is part of an existing drawing view, that is used to remove material to a specified depth in order to expose inner details of a model
