Freezing

Changes from a liquid to a solid. It loses energy

Melting

Changes from a solid to a liquid. It gains energy

Solid

Has definite volume and shape. Most dense (except water is most dense as a liquid). Least amount of energy of the phases of matter.

Liquid

Has definite volume but has no definite shape. Less dense than solid (except water is most dense as a liquid). More energy then solids.

Gas

Has no definite volume and no definite shape. Least dense and has the most energy of all phases.

Condensation

Is a change from a gas to a liquid. It loses energy.

Vaporization

Is a change from liquid to a gas. It gains more energy.

Boiling

Is a type of vaporization. It occurs inside the liquid and on the surface. This requires more energy than evaporation.

Evaporation

Is a type of vaporization. It occurs on the surface of liquid only.

Sublimation

This is a change from a solid directly to a gas. It gains energy. It is the opposite of deposition.
