How is the presidents cabinet selected and what is its role?

Members of the presidential cabinet are nominated by the commander in chief and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. The presidents cabinets role is to advise the president on any subject he may require relating to the duties of each member's respective office

The Cabinet consists of 15 department heads called secretaries(except the Attorney General). These individuals are close advisors to the president and run their own respective departments.
