IGETC and ASSIST.ORG: Will out of state students be able to satisfy it?

*Use our catalog as a reference* - both are references only for CCC - to determine what will be able to transfer or articulate there is no formal system - Out of state students can see what would most likely be transferable by comparing course descriptions listed on our Registrar's website to the courses they are currently taking (however this does not guarantee these courses will be directly transferable) in addition to using Transferology

What is ASSIST.ORG?

*only for CCC students* - You can view the University of California Transfer Course Agreements - You can view Selected Major Preparation Articulation Agreement for all CCC - The agreements list all lower division course requirements for select majors at UCLA and the courses students can complete at their community colleges that satisfy these requirements - You can view Intersegmental General education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) course lists

What is the UC 7-Course Pattern?

- 2 transferable courses in English composition / critical thinking and writing - 1 transferable course in Math that has a prerequisite of intermediate algebra or higher - 4 transferable college courses in AT LEAST two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social / behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences

Is there a unit cap for transferable courses from a 4 year institution?

- 86 Semester/129 Quarter transferable units (junior level) - UCLA will give transferable lower division credit for up to 70 semester or 105 quarter units - This leaves 16 Semester/ 24 Quarter units for transferable upper division credit before reaching senior-level standing

What services do the advisors provide via the Community College Transfer Recruitment (CCTR) program?

- Advisors provide admission requirement workshops: choosing a major completing undergraduate application, financial aid, EOP/AAP - UCLA transfer advisors keep transfer applicants informed of the status of their application and assist them during all phases of the application process

Students transferring from what institutions do we give the highest priority to?

- California Community College (CCC) - Other UC Campuses

IGETC: Benefits

- Completion of GE requirements before transfer - Allows the applicant to work on upper division courses as quickly as possible upon starting school

How do you determine what is considered upper vs lower division?

- Some school spell it out in their catalog or behind a student's transcript - *It is not our job to determine because it is at the discretion of the institution* - Apply and see: though we cannot tell them what will transfer due to "no pre-evaluations," students truly won't know unless they apply

ASSIST.ORG: What do you do with "no course articulation?"

- Take a look at the UCLA Transfer Admission Guide (TAG) to see if you will still be able to meet the minimum requirements with the courses that are articulated - Another option students can do if there is not a course articulation granted is to use ASSIST.ORG to review their CCC UC transferable courses and select courses that fit the TAG MP requirements as best as possible -Compare CCC courses to the course descriptions on our Registrar's website. If similar, the course can be petitioned, though it is not a guaranteed direct articulation

What information should I know about intercampus (UC to UC) transfer?

-Students who were previously enrolled at a UC campus and want to transfer to a different UC campus must be in good academic standing (last term and/or cumulative UC GPA of 2.00 or above) at their prior UC campus to be considered for transfer admission, even if that UC campus is not their last school of attendance. -All courses completed, and grades and units earned at a UC campus during fall, winter, spring and summer terms are transferable to another UC campus (however, some UC Extension courses may not be transferable). This means the UC GPA "follows" you to another UC campus. -UC courses and upper division courses from 4-year institutions will not be capped (at 70 semester/105 quarter units). Those units can put you at risk of exceeding the maximum for transfer eligibility and becoming senior-level.

What is the maximum amount of units that can be awarded for transferable courses from a community college?

70 Semester/105 Quarter Units

Does IGETC need to be completed when applying?

Generally no, it will not affect your admission decision nor will a student with IGETC certification be preferred over one who does not - However, it is highly encouraged for some specialty schools/majors (which is available on the Transfer Admission Guide)

What is IGETC?

Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC): enables students at California community colleges (CCC) to complete UC General Education requirements before they transfer - List of pre-selected courses that satisfy GE requirements - Agreement between UC's and individual colleges - *Only the School of Nursing and the School of Theater, Film, and Television require IGETC* or completion of the general education requirements

Will my AP scores be counted for IGETC?

It is at the discretion of the student's CCC to say what satisfies IGETC *this process does not go through UCLA

Will my AP scores be counted for UCLA's GE Requirements?

No, AP scores cannot be used to satisfy GE's. AP scores can be used for: 1. Title credit: units counted towards the minimum required for graduation 2. College / school requirements 3. Credit for an actual UCLA course More information: UA website >> Prospective Students >> Credit for AP exams

Can I complete my IGETC at UCLA?

No, IGETC certification is verified by a student's CCC. If a student only had partial IGETC when admitted they must either: 1. Finish the remaining requirements at their CCC for full certification by the summer prior to their first fall term in order to satisfy UCLA's General Education (GE) requirements. (Note: few CCC offer partial IGETC. If a partial IGETC is granted, the student can go back to CCC the summer after their first year at UC. A Partial IGETC must be on file for this option) 2. Meet with an academic counselor during orientation or the first fall term in order to discuss what UCLA GE requirements were satisfied with the transferable coursework from the IGETC and plan which remaining one(s) must be completed at UCLA

What schools do not accept partial IGETC?

Nursing & TFT - Some IGETC classes (transferable college credit taken at CCC) can be used towards GE's but students cannot go back to CCC to finish the remaining courses for IGETC certification -For engineering specifically, the main priority is major preparation before IGETC as it is difficult to do both within two years.

Which specialty schools at UCLA require IGETC certification?

TFT and Nursing

I'm a transfer student. If my college's Pass or Credit grade is equivalent to a C- or higher, will it still meet minimum requirements?

UC uses the college catalogs to determine whether a Pass or Credit grade is equivalent to a C (2.0) grade or better. -If the catalog indicates that the Pass or Credit grade is equivalent to a C- (below 2.0), the grade will not meet minimum requirements.

Can I take my courses P/NP?

We recommend taking courses for a letter grade if possible, especially in transferable English, math, and major preparation courses. -However, we will accept Pass grades for any Spring 2020 course, including those major preparation courses required for admission consideration. -Courses taken in Spring/Summer 2020 for P/NP credit will not negatively impact an applicant in the review process. -However, we are awaiting confirmation from each department on how they will utilize P/NP for placement purposes.

What is the Community College Transfer Recruitment (CCTR) program?

- provides assistance to prospective community college transfer students. Particular emphasis on underrepresented students - staffed by UCLA Undergraduate Admission personal who visit participating community colleges at various times throughout the academic year

Is there a unit cap for transferable courses from a community college?

-California Community Colleges (CCC) and other two year community colleges mostly provide lower division courses. -Therefore, a student who only attended a community college will not be at risk of reaching senior-level standing even if they earned a transferable total that exceeded 60 semester or 90 quarter units (junior-level). - UCLA will give transferable lower division credit for up to 70 semester or 105 quarter units (with priority to the major preparation coursework)

Is there an overall average GPA for Transfer admits?

-No, there isn't one overall average GPA for all transfer Admits. -If you access our Profile of Admitted Transfer Students you are able to see that the GPA for the admits can vary based on their major.

What is the unit cap for transferable courses from a 4 year institution?

-Quarter: 129 (105 + 24) -Semester: 86 (70+16) -UCLA gives credit for transferable lower (up to 70 semester / 105 quarter) AND upper (up to 16 semester / 24 quarter) division courses -Four-year universities offer lower AND upper division courses. Students who take upper division courses need to make sure not to exceed the maximum 86 semester or 129 quarter transferable unit total (junior-level) because they will reach senior-level standing and become ineligible for transfer if they exceed the maximum unit totals. -UCLA will give transferable lower division credit for up to 70 semester or 105 quarter units (with priority to the major preparation coursework). -This leaves 16 semester or 24 quarter units for transferable upper division credit before reaching senior-level standing.
