Unit 2 Mechatronics Vocabulary
Directional Control Valve
Allow fluid flow into different paths from one or more sources
Relay
An electrical device. Typically incorporating an electromagnet. That is activated by a current or signal in one circuit to open or close another circuit.
Magnetic Reed Switch
An electrical switch operated by an applied magnetic field. It also consist of a pair of contacts on ferrous metal reeds in a hermetically sealed glass envelope.
Stepper Motor
An electromagnetic device which converts electrical pulses into discrete mechanical movements.
Inductive Sensor
Detects metallic objects without touching them.
Contactor
Device for making and breaking an electric circuit.
Capacitive Proximity Sensor
Is a non contact technology suitable for detecting metals nonmetals solids and liquids.
Pneumatic Solenoid
Is an actuator allowing a relatively small signal to control a large device.
DC Drive Motor
Mainly used for good speed regulations along with frequent starting with braking and reversing.
Infrared Sensor
Often emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation and looks for changes in the field or return signal
PLC
Programmable Logic Controller
Ultrasonic Sensor
Self-contained solid-state devices designed for non-contact sensing of solid and liquid objects.
Fiber Optic Sensor
Uses optical fiber either as the sensing element or as a means of relaying signals from a remote sensor to the electronics that process the signals.
