Asia

Brahmans, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, and Shudsas. Brahmans are the priests and top administrators, Kshatriyas are warriors, Vaisyas are merchants, and Shudras are agricultural workers and artisans.

What is the communist attitude towards (any) religion?

Communism tends to discourage religious belief and practice. Throughout history, communist regimes have limited the practices of some religions and generally discouraged it.

What anti-religious actions did the communists take in Russia/Soviet Union?

In Russia/Soviet Union, communists have taken many anti-religious actions. Following the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, they pursued strong antireligious programs. Karl Marx called religion, "the opium of the people." People's religious beliefs couldn't be destroyed overnight, but were heavily reduced. The Soviet Union separated religion from government, nationalized churches, making them only available with government permission, and overall greatly reduced the amount of religious adherents in the country and reduced religious practices in everyday life.

How has the caste system changed in recent years? How has it remained in place?

The caste system has both changed in recent years and remained in place. In recent years, the system has changed to become considerably more relaxed than it has been in past years. However, it has also held onto most past beliefs, perhaps simply becoming more laid back in the way they enforce them.

How does the caste system impact religious practices?

The caste system impacts religious practices. Changing cultural, political, and economic customs can sometimes conflict with traditional religious values. Hinduism, for example, has changed, as everyone who practices the religion is in different classes, and are then divided through the caste system. This affects the kind of Hinduism being practiced and hinders one's ability to practice religion fully free.
