Complex subject
The noun plus the infinitive as in "(He was supposed to) take the garbage out"
Past tense verbs
These verbs usually end in 'ed' as in "The robot played ice hockey"
Future Tense verbs
Usually have the word 'will' before the verb and tells of something that will happen in later as in " The robot will play hockey".
Predicate tells
WHAT is said about the subject
Subject tells
WHO or what the sentence is about
Simple Subject
is usually a noun or pronoun as in " She coughed loudly" or " The cup was full"
Examples of 'to be' or 'to have' types of verbs
is, was has, had, am, are
Examples of action verbs
jump, sing cry, sit, act, run, play
Present tense verbs
the verb tells of something happening now as in " the robots plays ice hockey. This verb usually ends in an 's' if the subject is in third person.

Simple Predicate
Is usually just a verb (The boy jumped)
Linking verb
a verb (a feeling or sense of being) that connects a subject with an adjective or noun that describes or identifies the subject. "He appeared to be sad"
