How to apply for burial benefits
-VA form 21-530 and attach military service(DD214),death cert, and copies of funeral bills -Only for non and service related deaths
VA for service related will pay
-allowance toward burial expense -If buried in VA cemetery then most cost of transport will be reimbursed
Va for non-service related will pay
-allowance toward burial, funeral, and plot -If died in a VA place then most cost of transport will be reimbursed
Eligible for VA national cemeteries(no cost)
-eligible veterans -their spouses -and depends -children unmarried and under 21 -under 23 if a full time student -adult children of any age if disabled

-widow or widower over 60 -surviving spouse who is caring for children under 16 or disabled -unmarried children of deceased who is younger than 18
IF the deceased was already receiving social security
-you must return the benefit received for the month of death or any later months. -ex:if the person died in july then you must return the benefit paid in august

Up to $2,000.00 toward burial expenses for deaths on or after 09/1/01. For deaths prior to 09/1/01, up to $1,500.00. If the veteran is buried in a national cemetery, some or all of the cost of transporting the deceased may be reimbursed.

Unclaimed Remains for a veteran
the entity responsible for the burial of the Veteran would be entitled to a $300 burial allowance. If the Veteran is buried in a VA national cemetery, VA may reimburse the cost of transporting the deceased Veterans remains. VA may also reimburse for the cost of a plot.

Non-service related allowance
If the Veteran died on or after October 1, 2016, VA will pay a $300 burial allowance and $749 for a plot. • If the Veteran died on or after October 1, 2015, but before October 1, 2016, VA will pay a $300 burial allowance and $747 for a plot. • If the Veteran died on or after October 1, 2014, but before October 1, 2015, VA will pay $300 for burial allowance and $745 for a plot.
