What is the Purpose of a Punnett Square?
phenotype
Actual, observable outcome of the genotype interacting with its environment (ex. hazel eyes, farsightedness, etc.).
Punnett Square
Can help us predict the certain outcome of traits in an organism; shows the probability of a trait happening as well as all of the possibilities.
genotype
The genetic makeup of a particular trait in an organism and shows the dominant and/or recessive alleles that make up the gene (ex. Tt or BB or cc, etc.).
heterozygous
The two alleles that make up a gene are different (ex. a dominant allele and a recessive allele - Bb, Cc, Ff).
homozygous
The two alleles that make up a gene are similar (ex. two dominant alleles or two recessive alleles - BB or bb).
