Zoology Lab Test 1
Leuconoid
-most complex body form in sponges -gemmules -label incurrent canals, excurrent canals, choanocyte chambers, osculum -ostia = pores -Spongilla & Anheteromeyenia
Volvulent
-nematocyst -wrap around prey/spine -darker, coils & a head -many of them -hydra released when eating
Asconoid
Sac/Bag-Like Inside lined with choanocytes Simplest Body Plan Terminal osculum Ostia = pores Phylum Porifera -Leucosolenia
Phylum Cnidaria
cnid = nettle -cnidocytes: cell that contains the stinging structure -nematocysts: stinging structure -cnidocil: shoots nematocyst out if touched (fastest movement in animal world) 1. alternation of generations -polyp -medusa 2. radial symmetry
Agranulocytes
lymphocytes and monocytes -monocyte: C-shaped nucleus -lymphocyte: round nucleus
Granulocytes
neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils -eosinophils: red granules in cytoplasm (acidic) -neutrophils: purple granules (neutral) -basophils: blue granules (basic)
Porifera
pore bearing -loose aggregation of cells -mesophyl: like bones -amoebocytes: secrete spicules (digestive system)
Connective Tissue
living cells surrounded by non-living material (matrix)
Syconoid
-like a folded bag -label incurrent canal, radial canal, choanocytes, pinacocytes, ostium, apopyle, osculum, spongcoel -prosopyles = pores -increases surface area -Scypha or Grantia
Elegance coral
-look at picture from case
Glutinant
-look up picture -nematocyst -clear/lighter w an oval head -sticky to hold on to prey -hydra released when eating
Spongilla Phylum Porifera Class Demospongiae -Leuconoid -gemmules -freshwater -spicules -contain cells to build new sponges (for winter/hard times) -asexual reproduction -specimen
*look at Anheteromeyenia preserved specimen for another Leuconoid sponge
Microscope Question
1. put slide on stage 2. raise stage completely, using coarse adjustment knob 3. look through oculars 4. use the course adjustment knob to lower the stage until the slide comes into focus 5. "fine tune" with the fine adjustment knob 6. stop looking through oculars 7. rotate 10x objective into place 8. look through oculars 9. "fine tune" with the fine adjustment knob 10. stop looking through oculars 11. rotate 4x (scanning) lens into place 12. lower stage completely, using coarse adjustment knob 13. take slide off stage A, J, C, K, G, D, F, C, G, D, E I, B
