On December 7th, 1941 after months of planning and practices the Japanese launched their attack on Pearl Harbour, Oahu, Hawaii. Their main intentions for this attack was to take out their pacific fleet so that when the Japanese continue their invasion of S.E.A they wouldn't be interrupted. By the time the attack was over every ship that was at Pearl Harbour sustained significant damage. The Japanese cripple and or destroyed 18 ships and lost 300 planes. But most importantly 2500 lives were lost including some civilians. However, the Japanese had failed by the time the Japanese launched their attack battleships weren't the most important ships, aircraft carriers. Luckily the U.S's aircraft carriers were running late and were not in at Pearl Harbour at the time of the attack. The Japanese also forgot about the oil storages and repair shops. Despite all these failures by the Japanese, there were many consequences.
Cause 3
Point - A crucial short-term cause for the bombing of Pearl Harbour was the continue expansionist ideology of the Japanese which increased tensions with the U.S. Explain - Anti-Comintern Pact 1936 - Second Sino war (rape of Nanking) 1937 - Sparking Countries to shift - France defeated 10th, May 1940, led to French Indochina being invaded - Five Days later, Tripartite act signed Example - Flying Tigers in 1941, protecting skies over China, downing 300 Japanese soldiers and only losing 12 of their own. Link - Addition to the support, the U.S, Britain and Dutch East Indies initiated an oil and steel embargo against the Japanese. These acts from the U.S towards the Japanese saw both countries come closer to war.
Consequence 2
Point - A further significant result of the bombing of Pearl Harbour was the escalation of war from the Europen War to World War. Explain - German and Italy declare war on U.S on December 11th 1941 - U.S reciprocated Example - Panic, two enemies on both coasts. - German Dictator and Italian Dictator no obligation to declare war on the U.S - Relations had been deteriorating since 1937 - Hitler Underestimated America's military production capacity and also the time it would take for his own military operation Barbossa. Link - Hitler's decision was poorly made and allowed U.S to enter the war on Britain and France's side. At home there was another escalation - racism against the Japanese.

(Strategically Unacceptable) - Why it was bad for Japan to have control on S.E.A Example - Japan lost access to.. (Japanese assets were frozen on 26th July 1941) - Stats of losses for Japan - U.S demands - Japan's response Link - Japan had two choices, withdraw military forces from S.E.A or go to war with the U.S. They chose the latter
Consequence 4
Point - Perhaps the most significant consequence of the bombing of Pearl Harbour was the dropping of the A-Bomb on top of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th, 1945 Explain - Ending of European War when Nazi Germany surrendered on 7th May 1945 but the Pacific War continued. - U.S, Britain and China asked the Japanese to surrender on 26th July 1945 Example - Quote of the U.S talking to Japanese regarding their surrender. "We call upon the government of Japan to proclaim now the unconditional surrender of all Japanese forces.. the alternate is prompt and utter destruction." - The Prime Minister Kantaro Suzuki rejected this declaration. - This led to Truman deciding to drop the atomic bomb on top of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Link - This resulted positively for the U.S except Japan lost around 70,000-80,000 citizens in Hiroshima and the same in Nagasaki
Consequence 1
Point - Short term consequence of the bombing of Pearl Harbour was when the United States declared war on the empire of Japan Explain - Roosevelt's quote - A day in infamy - U.S unites as one country ready for war against the Japanese Example - Approvement of Declaration of War, December 8th 1941 - Japanese allies declare war on U.S, 11th December. Link - U.S reciprocated, formally entering the war in Europe. The European War had now become a World War.
Cause 2
Point - The Great Depression and the ensuing economic crisis saw Japan become more aggressive, looking g to establish her own colonies causing conflict with the U.S Explain - Widespread Poverty and Starvation in 1929 - Commit Military efforts to conquer territory - Decided to copy western nations, seek out rich colonies. Example - Invading Manchuria - Excuse for invading Manchuria Link - Result of Japanese economic power is obvious in late 1939 with the co-Prosperity sphere which encouraged economic and cultural unity in Asia.
