What are the differences between Royal, Charter, proprietary colonies?

Royal Colony: These were the most common type of colony. They were essentially run by the King of England. Charter Colonies were run by joint-stock companies that were charted by the King. These include: Virginia (Virginia company), Carolina (Carolina Company) and others. The least common were the proprietary colonies. These were colonies that had a limited amount of self rule. The only two were PA and RI.

The middle colonies

The Middle Colonies comprised the middle region of the Thirteen Colonies of the British Empire in North America. In 1776 during the American Revolution, the Middle Colonies became independent of Britain as the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware.

The new england colonies

The New England Colonies of British America included the colonies of Massachusetts Bay Colony, Connecticut Colony, Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations and Province of New Hampshire. They were part of the Thirteen Colonies including the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies.

Portsmouth Compact

The Portsmouth Compact was a document signed on March 7, 1638 that established the settlement of Portsmouth, which is now a town in the state of Rhode Island. It was the first document in history that severed both political and religious ties with mother England.

The Southern Colonies in North America were South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland Virginia and Georgia.

13 Colonies

The Thirteen Colonies were British Colonies on the Atlantic coast of North America founded between 1607 (Virginia) and 1733 (Georgia). The colonies began collaborating at the Albany Congress of 1754 to demand more rights and set up a Continental Congress that declared independence from Great Britain in 1776 and formed a new sovereign state, the United States of America. The thirteen colonies were: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts Bay, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

Maryland Toleration Act

he Maryland Toleration Act, also known as the Act Concerning Religion, was a law mandating religious tolerance for trinitarian Christians. Passed on April 21, 1649 by the assembly of the Maryland colony, it was the second law requiring religious tolerance in the British North American colonies and created the first legal limitations on hate speech in the world.
