Decimal Number

A number that uses a decimal point to show tenths or hundredths.

Base 10 Place Value System

A numbering system based on 10 in which the value of each place is 10 times as much as the place to its right and 1/10 the value of the place to its left.

Tenth

one of 10 equal parts in a whole; the first place to the right of the decimal point.

Digit

one of the symbols 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 9 used to write numbers.

Decimal Point

the dot used to separate the ones place from the tenths place in the decimal number.

Place Value

the value determined by the position of a digit in a number.
