7th Science Ch 6.1 R&R
A tree has 24 light rings and 24 dark rings. The tree is __________years old.
24
How are herbaceous and woody stems alike? How are they different?
Booth woody stems and herbaceous stems carry substances between a plant's roots and leaves, providing support and hold leaves up to the sun. Woody stems are hard and rigid; herbaceous stems are soft and flexible.
How does the structure of a leaf help in photosynthesis?
Cells that contain the most sunlight-absorbing choroplasts are tightly packed into the top of a leaf, so they get the most light. Openings in the leaf surface called stomata allow carbon dioxide to enter.
How does dispersal affect a seed's chances for survival?
If the seed is far enough from its parent plant, it will be easier for the seed to be able to get what it needs.
How is the structure of a root adapted for its function?
Root hairs growing out of the roots surface anchor the plants and absorb water and minerals. Vascular tissue in the roots center moves water and minerals away from the root and moves food made in the leaves to it.
_________on the surface of a leaf control the movement of gases into and out of the leaf.
Stomata
Describe the structure and function of the male and female reproductive parts of a typical flower.
The stamen makes the pollen on the anther. The pistil protects the seeds during growth.

anther
Seed___________is the scattering of seeds.
dispersal
The three parts of a seed are

The hollow structure at the base of a pistil that protects seeds as they develop is the
ovary
Animals are helpful to plants in the process of
pollination
The ____________protects the root as it grows through the soill.
root cap
Which part of a plant is responsible for absorbing water and minerals anchoring plants?
roots
A flower bud is protected by leaflike structures called
sepals
