Closed Circle or Closed Point

INCLUDES the number circled

Identity

In math it is an equality that holds true no matter what value is chosen for the variable

One-Variable

In math, we are referring to an equation that has only one variable

Equivalent Inequalities

Inequalities that have the same solution

Perimeter

The total distance around the edge of a shape; found by adding up all the sides

No Solution (for one equation or inequality)

There is no possible number that will make the equation or inequality true

Zero Pair

Two expressions that equal zero when combined

Equivalent Equations

Two or more equations with the same solution

Not Equal To

Value is equal to every number except the given value

Greater Than or Equal To

Value that is "at least" as big as another value or more; "No Less Than;" "Minimum;" Shade Right; Closed Circle

Less Than or Equal To

Value that is "at most" as big as another value or less;"No More Than;" "Maximum;" Shade Left; Closed Circle

Greater Than

Value that is "bigger than" another value; "More than;" Shade Right; Open Circle

Less Than

Value that is "smaller than" another value; "Fewer than"; Shade Left; Open Circle

Isolate

to separate from others; in math, it's getting a variable by itself on one side (left side) of an equation

Formula

A fact or a rule written with mathematical symbols; it usually connects two or more terms with an equal sign "="; when you know the value of one or more variable(s), you can find the value of the remaining variable using the formula

Equation

A mathematical sentence stating two expressions are equal "="

Inequality

A mathematical sentence that contains less than, greater than, less than or equal to, greater than or equal to, or not equal (<, >, ≤,≥, or ≠)

Literal Equation

An equation involving two or more variables

Infinite Solutions (for one equation or inequality)

Any real number can make the equation or inequality true

Distributing & Combining Like Terms

DCVAM ("Don't Call Vampires After Midnight"); D-Distributive Property, C-Combine Like Terms, V-Variables on Left Side, A-Add or Subtract, M-Multiply or Divide

Open Circle or Open Point

Does NOT include the number circled

Inverse Operations

Operations that undo each other: addition and subtraction, or multiplication and division.

Solving (for an equation with one variable)

The mathematical process of finding all the numbers for a variable that make an equation true.
