Open wounds

Abrasion Laceration Avulsion Puncture

Wound

An injury to soft tissue (skin, fat or muscle)

Signs of heat cramps

Painful muscle spasms Cool, moist, pale, ashen or flushed skin Headache Nausea and dizziness Weakness Heavy seating Skin hot Skin wet or dry or red Seizures Vomiting Rapid breathing Lack of seating Changes of sciousness Rapid and weak pulse

Cardiac Arrest vs Heart Attack behaviors

C. A. - abnormal breathing, no pulse, unresponsiveness, sudden collapse H. A.- sweating, especially in the face, nausea or vomiting, dizziness or lightheadedness, crushing sensation in the center of the chest, chest pain that comes and goes

Chocking victim becomes unresponsive

Carefully lower victim to a firm flat surface Send someone to get an AED Summon EMS if you haven't already done Begin CPR(consent implied if unresponsive. Unresponsive Child seek consent before CPR) starting with 30 compressions and 2 ventilations Open the mouth & look for an object (remove with finger sweep; no blind finger sweep) Give two ventilations Repeat this process

Symptoms of heat stroke

Changes in LOC, Skin that is hot to the touch , Skin that is wet or dry or appears red or pale, Vision disturbances, Seizures, Vomiting, Rapid and shallow breathing, Rapid and weak pulse, Lack of sweating

fracture

Complete break, a chip or a crack in a bone that is either open or closed

dislocation

Displacement of a bone away from its normal position at a joint

Signs of hypothermia

Indifference Disorientation Confusion Glassy stare

Pediatric Chain of Survival for children & infants

Injury prevention and safety Early CPR Early emergency care AND CALL 9 11 (rapid activation of the emergency medical services (EMS) system response team) Pediatric advanced life support Integrated post-cardiac arrest care (optimize ventilation and oxygenation and treat hypotension immediately)

Cardiac chain of survival for adults

Recognize emergency and call 9-1-1 Early CPR Early defibrillation Advanced life support Integrated post-cardiac arrest care

Signs of shock

Restlessness or irritability Altered level of consciousness (LOC) Pale, ashen, cool skin Nausea Rapid breathing Excessive thirst

S.A.M.P.L.E

Signs and symptoms, Allergies, Medications, pertinent past medical history, last oral intake, events leading up to the incident

Strain

Stretching and tearing or muscles or tendons

Sprain

Tearing of ligaments at a joint

Heat Stroke

body's systems are overwhelmed by heat causing them to stop functioning

Heart Attack

heart muscle experiences a loss of oxygenated blood

Cardiac arrest

heart stops beating, or beats too irregularly or weakly to circulate blood effectively.

Compressions

help clear the airway by moving the blockage into the upper airway

Defibrillation

help restore an effective heart rhythm and significantly increase the victim's change of survival/delivery of an electrical shock that may help re-establish an effective rhythm

CPR

keep oxygen-rich blood flowing and to help delay brain damage and death

Automated External Defibrillators (AED)

portable electronic devices that analyze the heart's rhythm and provide an electrical shock. The sooner it is used, the better.
