What was the view of federally funded internal improvements for Democrats and Whigs?
The Democrats were in favor of states' rights and did not like the Federal Government involvement in social and economic affairs while The Whigs favored a strong federal government through the power of the congress. Jackson and his Democrats worked hard to get rid of the Protective tariff and the National Bank of the United States while the Whigs supported both. A large difference in the policies was determined by those whom the Political Parties favored. The Jacksonian's represented the common man, a lower class person who made his living off the land.
What was the significance of Marbury v. Madison?
The Marbury v. Madison of 1803 was important because it was the first Supreme Court case to apply the principle of judicial review, the power of federal courts to void acts of Congress that were in conflict with the Constitution.
What were the three parts of the Missouri Compromise? Why was it important for both the North and South to have the balance of states equal at 12?
The Missouri Compromise was meant to create balance between slave and non-slave states. With it, the country was equally divided between slave and free states. Admitting Missouri as a slave state gave the south one more state than the north. Adding Maine as a free state balanced things out again.
What was the message of the Monroe Doctrine?
The Monroe Doctrine is the best known U.S. policy toward the Western Hemisphere. Buried in a routine annual message delivered to Congress by President James Monroe in December 1823, the doctrine warns European nations that the United States would not tolerate further colonization or puppet monarchs.

What was the goal of Henry Clay's American System? Was it successful?
The goal of Clay's American System was to better the United States economy and make them more independent. It consisted of three parts, a tariff to promote and protect American Industry, a national bank and the promotion of internal improvements. I was said to be quite successful because it allowed the United States to become more confident which allowed their independence to flourish.
What was the goal of the Seneca Falls Convention? Did they achieve this goal?
The goal of this convention was to cause women to have more rights in America, a multitude of women met and discussed things such as the right to vote, equal social status and legal rights. What resulted from this convention was a document called the the "Declaration of Sentiments" which expressed these discussion topics. Unfortunately, the convention wasn't very successful and not much improved because of it.
What were the reasons for the growth of the Second Party System? (Democrats and Whigs)?
With rising voter interest, rallies, partisan newspapers and party loyalty, the second party system began among complaints about the 1824 election when all the candidates were Democratic-Republicans. Because of Regional differences, the party fractured over corruption allegations and Jackson assembled a coalition that would become the Democrat Party. Amid anti-Jackson sentiment, the Whig party, under Henry Clay will emerge as the second half of the Second Party System.

democrat: Wanted a weak federal government with the government having little to no control over anything. whig:Wanted a strong federal government who had a strong voice on social and economic decisions.

How were Native Americans impacted as a result of westward expansion?
As the people of the United States expanded West, this forced Native Americans off of their land. An example of this is with the Trail of Tears when Jackson forced Native Americans off of their land and forced them to move elsewhere, traveling along the trail of tears.
What is nativism? What are examples of this during Antebellum America?
Nativism was the fact that people didn't like the immigrants and the way that they were "taking their jobs" and affecting their image and economy. An example of this is the Know-Nothing Party which was made up of people who wanted stricter enforcement laws on immigrants.

What two groups immigrated in large numbers to America in the 1830s and 1840s? Where did they tend to settle?
Germany and Ireland were the people who settled most during these years. The Irish came because of the potato famine and the Germans came because they were running from a corrupt government. The irish tended to settle in places such as New York and Germans settled in places like Pennsylvania.

In this Commerce Clause case, the Supreme Court affirmed Congress's power to regulate interstate commerce, and held that by virtue of the Supremacy Clause, state laws "must yield" to constitutional acts of Congress.

In this case, the Supreme Court held that Congress has implied powers derived from those listed in Article I, Section 8. The "Necessary and Proper" Clause gave Congress the power to establish a national bank.

Interchangeable parts were invented during this times period by Eli Whitney who felt it would make life easier to have the same parts for most guns. This allowed for faster production and the assembly line to be created The cotton gin also allowed for production time to be lessened and also the increase in slave labor in the United States
What happened to the amount of Americans able to vote under Andrew Jackson's Presidency? What groups were still not able to vote?
Jackson be it possible for the working man to vote under his presidency. Women and African American people still couldn't vote.
How did African Americans protect their dignity and family structures?
Some tried asserting to protect their rights, but they always got severely punished. Enslaved blacks and free African Americans created communities and strategies to protect their dignity and family structures, and they joined political efforts aimed at changing their status.
How were tensions during Jackson's administration?
Tensions were high during Jackson's presidency because there was a lot of controversy surrounding the elections that he was a part of. There were also many economic problems during this time period.
