1915 during World War 1 German Expression This is a personal piece, negative image Kirchner volunteered to be a military driver but he had nervous issues and when he was sent to recover he painted this piece The reason he was without a hand in this piece to show how he'd lost his identity during this time period He is wearing a uniform but he cannot serve In the background it is an indigenous figure because Kirchner feels as if he has been striped of his manhood
