He became deaf when he turned 4 by scarlet fever. He entered the California school for the deaf when he was five and learned how to sign. He proposed a bill to fight the rising tide of oralism and fought saying "sign language is our language".

Who is Andrew Foster (1925-1987)?

Who is Regina Olson Hughes (1895-1993)?

the most renowned Deaf scientific illustrator, she became deaf at the age of 14. She became a skilled ASL signer when she got enrolled in Gallaudet University. She became a translator first and she knew how to speak varies of languages (spanish, Italian, german, french...etc). then by 1925 she was hired for agriculture for her artistic talents. She was the only deaf artist to have a solo exhibition at an art institution. Two plants were named after her honor and deaf people will always have her in memory because of those beautiful painting.
