History of Bentley

-Bentley was founded in 1917 by Harry Bentley as an all-male accounting and finance school. Harry Bentley had taught accounting at Boston University and other area schools, and wanted to use his own methods in accounting education. -The school was originally located in the Back Bay of Boston. -Bentley became co-educational in 1942. -Bentley moved to its current Waltham, MA location in the 1960s -In 1971, Bentley gained the authority to grant the Bachelor of Science degree in all business disciplines and the Bachelor of Arts degree -Bentley became a University in the fall of 2008 with the addition of PhD programs

-Many schools may have them, but we are one of the few that encourage all students to use the trading room. -This is one of the largest academic trading floors in the U.S. at 3,500 square feet -All students will be required to spend some time in the trading room, regardless of major. -Is used as: classroom for over 40 undergraduate and graduate classes, lab to teach financial technology proficiency, research facility. -Software includes: Bloomberg, FactSet, Thomson One Analytics, Morningstar, FTS trading simulation software, DataStream, Crystal Ball, and MATLAB. Majors

Majors are typically declared at the end of sophomore year and classes typically begin the beginning of junior year, however it is reasonable to start in the second semester of sophomore year.

Minors

Students have 36 minors to choose from in both business and the arts and sciences. These courses can be taken at any point during your four years, but often occur in junior and senior years.

General Ed Classes

These are liberal arts courses that help give students a well-rounded perspective. Give examples of some classes a student may take their freshman year and let them know that they have options. For instance, the psychology requirement has an array of themed courses such as Psychology of Self and Cross Cultural Psychology.

Business Core Classes

They are designed to introduce students to the different aspects of business so they can understand how each area functions and how they are related. This core allows students to develop a solid foundation in various business areas and understand how one area impacts others. The business core is also designed to introduce students to a variety of aspects of business so that they can feel more comfortable in choosing a major second semester of sophomore year.
