Biology ch 33.1 assessment
List the structures of the circulatory system and explain their roles.
-heart: pumps blood through the circulatory system -blood vessels: carries blood through the circulatory system and back to he heart. -blood: transports oxygen, nutrients, and other substances throughout the body and removes waste from the body. -artery: carries blood away from the heart to the tissues of the body. -capillary: brings nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and absorbs carbon dioxide and waste products. -veins: carries blood from the body back to the heart.
what are three types of blood vessels ?
As blood flows through the circulatory system, it moves through three types of blood vessels, arteries, capillaries, and veins.
How would damage to the sink atrial node affect the heart's functions?
If the sinoatrial, (SA) node generates an impulse that spreads through the atria, causing the muscle fibers to contract and pump blood to the ventricles), was damaged, the heart would not be able to beat at a constant rate.
Why do humans need a circulatory system?
Living cells need to absorb nutrients and oxygen, and to release waste products, such as carbon dioxide. Larger, multicellular animals need a circulatory system to transport substances to and from their cells.
How does the heart pump blood through the body ?
Powerful contractions of the myocardium pump blood through the circulatory system.
what are the functions of the circulatory system ?
The circulatory system transports oxygen, nutrients, and other substances throughout the body, and removes wastes from tissues.
Describe the two paths of blood circulation through the body.
The pulmonary circulation pumps oxygen-poor blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs. While the blood is in the lungs, carbon dioxide breaks up the blood and oxygen is absorbed by the blood. In the systematic circulation, the blood from the right side of the heart goes to the left side of the heart to the left side of the heart where oxygen-rich blood is transported through the body.
The circulatory system in the body is analogous to
a transportation system in a city
Describe the functions of three types of blood vessels in the circulatory system ?
arteries, viens and capillaries
the smallest blood vessels are the
capillaries
The backflow of blood in the heart is prevented by the
heart valves
If you were standing, would you expect the blood pressure to be higher in your arm or in your leg? Explain your answer. (Hint: Think about which area of the body is closer to the source of pressure.)
lower in your leg because if you just stamd there its not doing nothing
when blood pressure is high, the kidneys
remove more water from the blood
Which structure pumps blood out of the heart ?
ventricle
