Groups

a tool that allows teachers to create groups of students in their sections. Great for large group assignments or project.

Embedding

the process of integrating one type of item into another so it becomes an integral part of that object, such as inserting a video in an electronic presentation

Preview Course

A teacher created course used to preview materials you want to download from Commons. There is no way of previewing course materials on preview.

SpeedGrader

...a grading tool on Canvas that allows teachers to grade assignments, short answer questions, essays, or other submissions with a digital rubric, manually entering a grade, or annotating on the screen.

Courses

Contains all class periods of students enrolled in a specific course.

Quizzes

One of the items you can add to modules that allows you to create tests, quizzes, survey, or practice tests.

Front Page

The default page students will see when they open your course. This should be the uniform Attucks Middle Front page.

HTML

hypertext markup language; a standardized system for marking up text files with tags that achieve font, color, graphic, and hyperlink effects on World Wide Web pages

Pages

One of the items you can add to a module. This is used to disseminate information such as notes, videos, images, or content.

Back End

The teacher or designer view of Canvas. Has items and tools that the students never see.

Blended Classroom

A hybrid between traditional book and paper classrooms, and full online classrooms. The students use the online environment to complete a portion of the coursework while still having face to face time with a teacher, in a classroom.

Flipped Classroom

A part of the blended environment where students complete basic A classroom in which more traditional teaching methods and the delivery of instruction happen outside the classroom and online, while traditional homework and delving into and applying concepts learned is moved into the classroom and facilitated by the teacher.

Commons

An area in Canvas where public courses and materials can be shared.

Modules

How you organize materials and units in Canvas. Modules can be organized by category, subject units, weeks, months, or quarter.

Discussion

One of the items that can be added to modules and allows you to create discussions based on class materials.

SpeedGrader

The fantastic grading function of Canvas that allows you to grade by using a clickable rubric, on screen annotation, or by simply manually entering points, without ever having to download an assignment.

Sections

The specific class periods in each course. This allows the teacher to modify content, assignments, due dates, or other features for individual period of the same course, for example, a teacher who teaches math might have an Algebra course with 3 sections, one for each class period.

Front End

The student's view of Canvas. What the students can actually see and interact with, like published units, links, and assignments.

Apps & Tools

Things like quizlet, youtube, hrw.com, USA Today that work directly through Canvas to allow users to embed content on their pages.

Syllabus

This is where you can post your syllabus, course requirements, and course overview.

Technology Integration
