During what phase of the cell cycle does cell division occur?

Metaphase.

What is a series of events that cells go through as they grow and divide?

Mitosis.

Put the following stages of mitosis in order: anaphase, prophase, metaphase, and telophase. (note: the answer will be in order).

Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.

Telophase

Chromosomes begin to uncoil back into chromatin.

Spindle Apparatus

The whole structure including the spindle fibers, centrioles, and aster fibers that help move and organize the chromosomes before cell division.

Haploid

This is a cell with half of the number of chromosomes.

Cytokinesis

This is the end result of mitosis. This is a division of cytoplasm. Two new genetically identical diploid cells.

Sister chromatid

These are structures that contain identical copies of DNA.

Centrioles

They are microtubule structures that migrate to the ends, or poles, of a cell. Spindle fibers come out of centrioles.

Gene

This controls inherited trait expressions that is passed on from one generation to another generation.

Mitosis

This involves somatic cells (body cells- 46 chromosomes). PMAT. Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.

Interphase

This is the longest phase in the cell cycle. (NOT part of mitosis). This is the period between cell divisions. Interphase consists of G1, S, and G2. G1-cells doubles in size. S-DNA is synthesized/replicated. G2-organelles are copied.

Prophase

This is the longest phase of mitosis. Chromosomes coil up. Centrioles take their place at the poles of the cell. Chromosomes attach to spindle fibers. Near the end, nucleolus/nuclear membrane disappears.

Cell Cycle

This is the sequence of growth and division of a cell. Enzymes control the cell cycle.

Metaphase

This is the shortest phase of mitosis. Chromosomes line up at the equator. Centromeres attach to spindle fibers.

Cancer

This is the uncontrolled growth and division of cells- a failure in regulation of cells.

Diploid

having two copies of each chromosome.

Put the following actions in order: DNA replication, cell grows, cell division, cell prepares for mitosis. (Note: The answer will be in order).

Cell division, cell grows, DNA Replication, and cell prepares for mitosis.

Why do cells divide?

Cells divide for a couple of reasons: to make a new organism, to make new cells, and to get growth of an organism.

Anaphase

Centromeres spilt and chromosomes spilt apart and move toward the poles.

How many stages are there in mitosis?

Four.

Put the following in order: G2, S, G1, M. (Note: the answer will be in order).

G1, S, G2, M.

Put the following in order: G2, G1, S, mitosis, cytokinesis. (Note: The answer will be in order).

G1, S, G2, Mitosis, and Cytokinesis.

During what phase of the cell cycle does mitosis and cytokinesis occur?

Interphase.

During what phase of the cell cycle does the cell prepare for mitosis?

Interphase.

During what stage does the G1, S, and G2 phases happen?

Interphase.

What is the longest stage of the cell cycle called?

Interphase.

During what phase of the cell cycle does the cell grow?

Interphase. G1

During what phase of the cell is DNA replicated?

Interphase. G2

Centromere

The structure at the center of the chromosome where the sister chromatids are attached to.

Homologous chromosome

One of two paired chromosomes, one from each parent, that carries genes for a specific trait at the same location.
