Name the parts of a flower and their function

Pistil- female part of the flower Stigma- part of the pistil that the pollen grain lands on. Style- a neck like structure through which the pollen tube grows. Ovary- juglike structure that contains one or more ovules as can develop into a fruit. Receptacle- where all the flower parts are borne. Peduncle-holds up the flower Petal- attracts pollinators Calyx-protects the flower parts when the flower is a bud. Anther- saclike structure where pollen grains form Filament-thin stalk of a stamen. Pollen grains- these grains transfer between one another for reproduction to occur.

Describe the alternation of generation in flowering plants.

They spend a portion of their life in a multicellular haploid stage and a portion in a multicellular diploid stages.

megaspore- the n spore In heterosporous plant that gives rise to a female gametophytes. Microspores- the n spore in heterosporous plant that gives rise to a male gametophyte. pollen grains- the immature male gametophyte of seed plants that produces that produces sperm capable of fertilization. embryo sac- the female gametophyte generation in flowering plants. polar nuclei-one of two n cells in the embryo sac that fuse with a sperm during double fertilization to form the 3n endosperm. Double Fertilization- a process in the flowering plant life cycle in which there are two fertilizations; one fertilization results in formation of a zygote, whereas the second results in formation of endosperm. Ovule- the structure in the plant ovary that develops into the seed following fertilization. carpel-the female reproductive unit of a flower cotyledon- the seed leaf of a plant embryo which may contain food stored for germination. seed-a plant reproductive body consisting of a young, multicellular plant and nutritive tissue, enclosed by a seed coat. Fruit- In flowering plants, a mature, ripened ovary. Fruits contain seeds and usually provide seed protection and dispersal.
