Superior

A body part is above another part, or is closer to the head

Inferior

A body part is below another body part, is toward the feet

Lateral

Away from midline;on the outer side of

Distal

Away from the origin or trunk

Anatomical Position

Body erect ,Feet slightly apart ,Palms facing forward Thumbs point away from body *right and left refer to "right" and "left" of the body in position.

Medial

Closer to midline

Frontal (Coronal) Plane

Divides body into front and back portions (Anterior-front, Posterior-back) (Ventral-front, Dorsal-back)

Sagittal Plane

Divides body into left and right portions Median - equal left and right halves

Transervse Plane

Divides body into top and bottom portions (superior-head; inferior-feat)

Anterior

Front of the body

Anterior (Ventral)

Deep

Inward from body surface; toward core

Lying on left or right side.

Supine Position
