Allergy

Non-Infectious Disease

A disease that is not caused by a virus or a living organism.

Toxin

A poison produced by a living organism, such as a plant, animal, or microorganism.

Accident

An unexpected happening that may result in injury, loss, or damage.

Risk Factor

Something which increases risk or susceptibility of getting a noninfectious disease.

Metabolism

The process by which the body breaks down substances and gets energy from food.

Asthma

a chronic allergic disorder characterized by episodes of severe breathing difficulty, coughing, and wheezing.

Hereditary Disease

a disease caused by defective genes inherited by child from one or both parents.

Autoimmune Disease

a disease in which the immune system attacks the organism's own cells.

Phenylketonuria

a genetic disorder in which an essential digestive enzyme is missing.

Circulatory System Diseases

a group of diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels, such as hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, and heart failure.

Rickets

a metabolic disease caused by a Vitamin D deficiency.

Alzheimer's disease

a progressive degeneration of the brain that ultimately results in dementia.

Poison

a substance that causes illness, injury or death if taken into the body or produced within the body.

Melanoma

a type of serious skin cancer.

Risky Behavior

actions or choices that may increase your chances of getting a noninfectious disease.

Genes

control the activities of cells and determine a person's physical characteristics.

Muscular Dystrophy

group of hereditary diseases characterized by degeneration of muscle and weakness.
