Chapter 2: Direct Variation
Constant of variation (rate of variation)
In a direct variation equation y = kx, k represents the constant of variation which is a constant ration equal to y/k or output values divided by corresponding input values.
Direct Variation
When y varies directly as x and k is the constant of variation, an equation can be written in the form y= kx, where k does not equal 0.
Inverse Constant of Variation
k = constant of variation; (inverted)k = Inverted constant of variation. k = y/x; (inverted)k = x/y. Constant of variation shows relationship between x to y, inverted constant of variation shows relationship between y to x. In an expression it would look like: x = (inverted)ky; y = kx.
