Chapter 3 - GESTALT PRINCIPLES
What is Figure Ground?
Figure ground organizes visual information by separating a 'figure' from its 'ground' (surroundings) in a visual scene.
What are the Gestalt principles?
Figure ground, closure, proximity, similarity
What is Closure?
The tendency to mentally 'close up', fill in, or ignore gaps in a visual image and perceiving objects as complete/whole
What is Proximity?
The tendency to perceive parts of a visual image as a group when they are positioned close together - separating parts of a whole because of their closeness
What is Similarity?
The tendency to perceive parts of an image as a group depending on similar features such as size, shape, texture or colour.
Define Gestalt principles
The ways in which we organize the features of a visual scene by grouping them to perceive a whole, complete form.
