Chapter 4
What is a Bill of Material? What are 2 important points about bills of material?
*BOM* is one of the most essential records in a production company. It is a complete list of raw materials, parts and assemblies needed to manufacture or assemble a product.
What the difference between dependent and independent demand?
*Demand* number of items of a particular creation that its purchaser desires to buy at a price. There are 2 types of demand. *Dependent* - is the demand for products that are used to manufacture another product or are taken in to account as elements of alternative products. The demand for both items can either move together or in the opposite trend. Both products are considered as products with depend demand. *Independent Demand* is the demand for the product that is considered as final use product. This product goes directly to consumers. The independent demand is affected by the market circumstances and is not connected to the stock decision for alternative products.
What are exception messages? What is their purpose?

Describe the following types of BOM - Product Tree - Multilevel Bill - Single Level Bill - Indented Bill - Summarized Parts list - Planning Bill
Product Tree: the product tree is a suitable method used for bills of material, it is rarely used except for teaching and testing. The product tree is a list of factors that produce finished or semi finished goods. List includes explanation, quantity and unit of measure for each part. Multilevel Bill: Multiple bill is exercised when firm normally produces more than one prodcut and equivalent parts are frequently used in various types of products. This is mainly applicable to group of products. Single Level Bill: a single level bill of material includes only the parent and its direct components. A single level is enough when the product is accumulated from the set of purchased components and raw materials, but it does not suitable define the product that has secondary products. Indented bill: is also known as a multilevel bill. It uses a symbol as a means of recognizing parents from its components. Indented bills includes all elements of the products right fro raw materials to finished goods. Summarized Parts lists: includes all the components required to produce one entire assembly. Summarized parts list is created by the product designer and does not include any information about the method from which the product is manufactured or assembled.
