White Lines - other uses

Can be used to: Guide traffic around obstructions Mark curbs Control parking spaces

Interstate spurs

Is a short route that connects w/ a primary route at only one end. - Feature 3 digit route numbers that begin w/ an odd number

Key steps in safely using shared left turn lanes:

- Use only to turn left - Don't get in lane too soon - Watch for vehicles pulling out of driveways and cross streets - Yield right of way to any vehicle that is signaling to enter OR that's already entered the lane

Meaning of a signal light's 3 colors

-Red - Stop prior to crosswalk, stop bar, or roadway-edge line. Don't enter roadway -Yellow - Right of way expiring. Clear intersection. (Red light will follow immediately.) -Green - When traffic has cleared (and is safe to do so), you may enter the intersection.

Identify 4 signs or roadway markings used w/ reversible lanes

-Red X - Means lane is closed to you. Never drive in lane under this. -Green Arrow - You're permitted to drive in a lane under this signal. -Steady Yellow X - Indicates driver should safely vacate lane b/c it will soon be controlled by red X. -Flashing Yellow X - Means you can use lane, but only to turn left. When preparing to turn, don't move into lane until near it. (Turn not protected; be sure oncoming traffic is clear)

Dashed White Markings

Dashed - separate 2 lanes going in same direction.

Reversible Lanes

Marked with double-dashed yellow lines, can improve flow of traffic by changing direction of travel (of lanes). Ex. if larger volume of traffic going 1 direction, they'll appoint reversible lanes to help ease traffic flow.

Solid White Markings

Solid - Used to mark right edge of HWY; - Also between lanes to indicate areas where lane changes discouraged/ unlawful (due to increased danger associated w/ such movements). -Solid white lines running perpendicular across traff. lanes identify stopping points and pedestrian crosswalks.

Yellow Markings

Used to separate traffic in opposite directions and to indicate the left edge of multi-lane, divided hwys. Yellow center lines may be single, double, solid, or dashed (broken). Single broken yellow (or broken yellow line to right of solid-yellow) -Means driver can pass, if safe to do so. Solid yellow line (to right of broken yellow line) - Passing prohibited Double solid-yellow line - Passing prohibited (Both directions)

Interstate loops

Usually bypasses cities or congested ares + meets primary route at both ends. - Feature 3 digit route numbers that begin w/ an even number

Type(s) of info communicated by the following sign colors: a) Blue b) Brown c) Orange

a) Blue - Motorist services guidance b) Brown - Recreational and cultural-interest guidance c) Orange - Temporary work zone

Type(s) of Info being communicated by the following sign colors: a) Green b) Yellow c) Red

a) Green - Directional guidance; indicates movement is permitted b) Yellow - General warning / caution c) Red - Stop or prohibition

A solid yellow line on your side of the road means: a) You may not pass b) You may pass, if safe to do so c) Oncoming vehicles may pass d) You are approaching reversible lanes

a) You may not pass

Railroad advance warning signs are: a) Red and triangular b) Black on white in the shape of an X c) Orange and diamond-shaped d) Yellow and round

b) Black on white in the shape of an X

Signs communicate meaning using: a) Color b) Shape c) Words d) All of the above

d) All of the above

Solid white lines are used to: a) Mark the edge of highways b) Between lanes to indicate areas where lane changes are discouraged or unlawful due to increased danger associated with such movements c) Mark shared left turn lanes d) Both A and B

d) Both A and B

An odd-numbered Interstate using single or double digit number indicates a route that: a) Runs in a loop around a city b) Extends outward from a loop around c) Runs east and west d) Runs north and south

d) Runs north and south /\ < + > Tip: < > = Even V /\ V = Odd
