chart
A graphical representation of data
data table
A grid that displays the data plotted in the chart
axis
A horizontal or vertical line drawn on a graph to define points of reference.
legend
A list that identifies patterns, symbols, or colors used in a chart
Sparkline
A mini chart you can insert into a cell
chart sheet
A separate worksheet in an Excel workbook that contains a chart.
data series
Related data points represented by data markers; each data series has a unique color or pattern represented in the chart legend.
chart area
The entire area inside the chart container that holds background as well as plotted data.
plot area
The graphical representation of all of the data series.
chart style
The overall visual look of a chart in terms of its graphic effects, colors, and backgrounds; for example, you can have flat or beveled columns, colors that are solid or transparent, and backgrounds that are dark or light.
exploded pie chart
When you pull one or more slices away from the pie in a pie chart to distinguish them.
embedded chart
a chart that is inserted into the same worksheet that contains the data used to create the chart
scatter chart
a chart that shows the relationship between two categories of data; sometimes called an xy chart
pie chart
a chart that shows the relationship of a part to a whole
column chart
a chart that uses bars of varying height to illustrate values in a worksheet
line chart
a chart that uses points connected by a line to illustrate values in a worksheet
data source
a range of cells in an excel worksheet that contain the data for a chart
chart layout
an arrangement that specifies which elements are included in a chart and where they are placed
data label
text or numbers that provides additional information about a data marker
data marker
A column, bar, area, dot, pie slice, or other symbol in a chart that represents a single data point; related data points form a data series.
