Beyond Excel and Tablueau-centric considerations, some filetypes indicate files that are actually small programs and as such could be dangerous to run if you were to double-click on them (i.e. they could be malicious). Excel and Tableau have different file types that each have different properties. For example, .twb files do NOT store a copy of the data set, but twbx. files do. When working with Excel and Tableau we often work with other filetypes that are not specific to Excel, such as CSV. files of TXT. files. Seeing the suffixes provides another layer of identification (and discrimination) for these files.
