: Substitution not allowed by the prescriber : State law may require specific wording be on the face of the prescription ( e.g., brand medically necessary, dispense as written, brand only, etc)
DAW 1
: Substitution not allowed because the generic drug is not in stock : Based on the pharmacy's buying habits and inventory
DAW 4
: Brand- name is dispensed as the generic : Happens when there are multiple brands for a generic medication
DAW 5
: Override is required : Rarely used
DAW 6
: Substitution not allowed by the state. : If brand-name drug is written on the prescription, the generic equivalent cannot be dispensed; the brand-name product must be dispensed.
DAW 7
:Substitution not allowed because the generic drug is not available in the marketplace. :Happens when drug isn't manufactured/ distributed or is temporarily unavailable.

: Other : Reserved and currently not in use
