Rehabilitation Act of 1973

Prohibits discrimination against otherwise qualified physically or mentally handicapped persons.

Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1975

Prohibits discrimination on the basis of age in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Applies to all ages.

Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967

Prohibits employment discrimination against persons 40 years of age or older. Protections apply to both employees and job applicants.

Fair Employment and Housing Act of 1959

Prohibits harassment and discrimination in employment because of race, color, religion, sex (gender), sexual orientation, marital status, national origin (including language use restrictions), ancestry, mental and physical disability, medical condition (cancer/genetic characteristics), age (40 and above), pregnancy, denial of medical and family care leave, or pregnancy disability leave and/or retaliation for protesting illegal discrimination related to one of these categories.

Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act of 1994

Protects military service members and veterans from employment discrimination on the basis of their service, and allows them to regain their civilian jobs following a period of uniformed service. Applies to members of the Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard, and other "Uniformed Services"

California Family Rights Act of 1993

Allows eligible employees to take up to twelve workweeks off in a 12-month period. It is not required that the leave be taken in one continuous period of time. (Intermittent Leave)

Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978

Amended Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibits discrimination against women on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions.

Civil Rights Act of 1991

Amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to strengthen and improve federal civil rights laws, to provide for the recovery of compensatory and punitive damages in cases of intentional employment discrimination.

Family Medical Leave Act of 1993

Enforced by DoL; Up to 12 workweeks of leave during a 12-month period for the birth and care of a child; adoption or foster placement and care of a child; care for the employee's spouse, son, daughter, or parent with a serious health condition; Up to 26 workweeks of leave during a single 12-month period for a covered servicemember with a serious injury or illness.

Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972

Instituted the federal Equal Employment Opportunity program, designed to ensure fair treatment to all segments of society without regard to RACE, RELIGION, COLOR, NATIONAL ORIGIN, or SEX. Amended the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and expanded the investigative power of the EEOC to cover State and Local governments.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1992

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) gives civil rights protection to individuals with disabilities. Equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits employment discrimination based on RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, SEX and NATIONAL ORIGIN. Established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). EEOC interprets and enforces Title VII's prohibition of sex discrimination as forbidding any employment discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation.
