Egypt

One of the first world civilizations. The Nile river is fundamental for Egypt. Nile is the longest river in the world. The Nile splits into branches, forming a triangular Delta, before empties in the Mediterranean sea. The Nile Delta is called Lower Egypt. The land upstream, to the South is called Upper Egypt.

Egyptian Religion

Polytheist. Sun gods, land gods, river gods,... Ra (god of Sun), Osiris, Isis. The Egyptian Ruler took the title of "Son o f Ra"

Miracle of the Nile

The ancient Egyptians referred to the river's yearly flooding as the "miracle" of the Nile. The river rose in the summer from heavy rains in central Africa, in autumn it overflow in Egypt leaving behind a deposit of mud that created an area of rich soil . They call it the " Black Land" .

shadoof

The shadoof is an ancient device for lifting water. It is still used for irrigation today!

Unlike Mesopotamia, Egypt was NOT subject to constant invasion as was blessed with natural barriers: 1)West and East: The Dessert 2)East: The Red Sea 3)North: The Mediterranean Sea
